The view of the fire from my office. The smoke is increasing.
If anything, the smoke situation in Glasgow is getting worse as the morning progresses. Stay safe out there.

The pall of smoke over Glasgow today. The spire of Glasgow Central is barely visible through the haze.
Today is not the day to head into Glasgow city centre if you have respiratory issues. The air is acrid.
This is the view from my office. The wind is coming from an unusual, south-easterly direction, so the smoke appears to be affecting neighbourhoods as far away as Woodside.
A mock-up map of the Glasgow Crossrail proposal, now absorbed into the Clyde Metro proposal. Lots of proposals...
The closure of Glasgow Central station is exposing the public transport network's lack of resilience.
At the very minimum, there should be overground stations at West Street and Glasgow Cross, to allow folks to transfer to the Subway and lower-level lines.
We've been talking about this since 2008.
Two firefighters resting, sitting on the plinth of the "Citizen Firefighter" statue.
Quite an image on the BBC live page (www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cd...; no photographer credited).
Sounds as if they've saved the station and the hotel, and more importantly, without loss of life.
Citizens; heroes.
I've never been happier to wake up to the Glasgow rain.
Fire crews continuing to fight the blaze at the corner of Union Street and Gordon Street this morning.
The Glasgow Times is still running its live blog for anyone who needs updates on the fire this morning. Apparently there's a *lot* of smoke in the city centre. The iconic Glasgow Central station is smoke-damaged and will be closed for the foreseeable. www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/2591847...
It's immediately next door. The two buildings are attached.
Transport Scotland is running a consultation on removing part of the M8 *right now*. I'd encourage everyone to fill out the survey and choose the "remove" optionβand rid my city of this terrible scar. www.pinpointcloud.co.uk/M8WoodsideVi...
THIS. If youβre in central Glasgow tonight please close your windows; if you have to be out please wear the best mask you have available. If you can smell it, youβre at risk.
This is terrible. If the fire spreads next door to Glasgow Central station, it will have a devastating effect on the entire city. I'm crossing everything.
Photo of a woman standing with her bike on the pavement by a city read. Traffic lights and a bus are in the background. To the right, a male cyclist is parking his bike at a stand.
It's time to tackle the cycling #GenderGap βοΈ
On #InternationalWomensDay we want to raise awareness of the barriers that stop women getting on bikes.
Our upcoming #WalkingCyclingIndex for Scotland reveals the number of women cycling in our cities is still half that of men π΄ββοΈ
I'm literally considering writing a fucking user manual so it's fair to say I'm running low on ideas... But sure. π
We're not a match and that's OK. But I'm 40 years old and I've never truly matched with *anyone*. Hence why I'm tryna think of ways to disable that e-stop button.
As social cues go, a direct question is about as literal as it gets... But I hear you; I could be more explicit about why it's important to establish how my brain works... But I'd hope, given that I'm here wanting to know everything about how he ticks, that this sentiment would be reciprocated.
Sheep turned the verdant hills and temperate forest of the Scottish Highlands into a depopulated wasteland of rock and grass.
Space for raising sheep was the excuse made for the clearances.
We can't return the natural glory of the north without the fall of the sheep.
Big virtual hugs. I'll have to let you know how the manual goes if I end up publishing it! I'm seriously tempted.
Anyway... We're beyond the next step, but I appreciate you asking. I've swung wildly into the avoidance zone (hi, good to see you here!) because of that feeling of danger. I hate that I react like this. I'd love to discuss why I react like this! I offered the opportunity to do so but now it's lost.
Part of my brain rationalises others' incuriousness as them not wanting to make a big deal out of it because they *assume* it's what I'd want. What I actually want is an opportunity to bust the stereotypes. I can't do that if you think me and your friends belong to some crude ADHD monolith.
Let's have all the manuals!! Cos I'm here consistently misunderstanding how neurotypicals go about dating and they clearly don't get me either... But at least I show curiosity. I'm increasingly realising that their usual default of assuming rather than asking makes me feel unseen and unsafe.
Standard procedure goes something like...
Him: triggers one of my ADHD-fueled spirals of overthinking, probably inadvertently.
Me: "hey, I need to tell you something... I have ADHD. Do you have any questions about that affects dating?"
Him: "Nah we're good, I have friends with ADHD."
Cool.
Me looking sweaty at the gym, added to this post to get it attention cos that's how social media works, unfortunately.
I'm thinking of writing a step-by-step user manual on how to date my ADHD-riddled ass cos I fear I'll be single forever otherwise. Am I insane?
On my way out of the consultation event, I spoke to a person on the steps of the building. They said they wouldn't know how to get to Edinburgh if they couldn't drive along the M8 in Glasgow.
The answer: more quickly.
Transport Scotland are consulting on removing a stretch of the M8 motorway from Glasgow *today*.
This work is fundamental to tackling the climate crisis, dealing with air pollution and improving public health.
Head to Woodside Halls before 5pm to support Approach 3. maps.app.goo.gl/usaEtwE7peZh...
I'll be there! Heading up at lunchtime.
Yet another example showing how the main people pushing a simplistic identity politics narrative are right-wing politicians & pundits promoting a regressive patriarchal white supremacy. Many folks are opposed to this narrative as seen in the campaign & election of Hannah Spencer in Manchester.
Me doing preacher curls with a 45kg EZ-curl bar. I'm wearing BFR bands and a Welsh Rugby singlet.
Me stood next to my gym buddy. I look ridiculously tall.
Gym spam.
I think Jonn is very possibly representative of the many who voted Labour but got Reform Lite instead. When the choice is between Reform with a blue rosette and Reform with a red rosette, it's inevitable that the whole "vote Labour or get Reform" shtick is gonna lose its power.
That's the way to do it. So good to see progressive politicians pushing back hard on Reform's messaging. Highly effective and so refreshing and Labour could learn a lot from Polanski in this regard. Take the attack to the Faragists - don't let them get away with it.
I'm not even a Green Party member and I'm so tired of this kinda thing from Labour...
1) Neither of those are actually Green policies. Stop lying.
2) This government is not progressive. Own it.
3) Labour 'split the vote' in this by-election, not the Greens. Don't like it? Change the voting system.
