Once upon a time British Leyland supposedly sent a shipload of LHD cars to Japan, but had to bring them back, due to not realising that the Japanese drove on the same side as Britain. But although it was shown on TV, it seems not to have been a real event, but a spoof or April Fool clip.
A random thought: In Peter Greenaway's film The Draughtsman's Contract, (where the director himself is the artist behind the drawings of 'Mr. Neville',) I found it incongruous that the drawings looked very modern, quite unlike those of the film's 17th century setting.
I agree that "playing a game" differs from just playing precisely due to the element of competition. But one common feature of "games" is that they involve rules, even if they are not competitive. "Involve" can also mean "break", as in "gaming the system", "are you playing games with me?", etc.
Once upon a time, I went back to England, to my old home town of Colchester, and paid parking by cheque (incredibly so). I made it out to "one pound only", and wrote the number. My bank statement showed -7 pounds. European cursive! It so happens, the amount in words is what counts. It got resolved.
Is he by any chance looking for empathy with his supposed plight? Wouldn't that be weak?
