I think it’s less blank slate, and more of a deliberate genre pull. The candid realism of a found footage slasher (also with the first person view), a protagonist who isn’t cool or scripted. Doesn’t have lines and just goes “FUCK FUCK SHIT”. Not saying he’s good or better, but it’s deffo genre work.

Watching some lps from streamers who love the series has given me so much fondness that I’ve low key been nervous about 9 bc like. What if it’s not good. And I’m so glad to hear folks are really liking it.

I understand why he could be hit or miss but I love pathetic fail boy Ethan winters. It works great with village’s more fantastical themes and settings, the world is so dramatic, but Ethan winters is untouched by the cool factor. Perfect foil for the histrionics. Guy who doesn’t know he’s in a movie
