The current Canadian government is trying to fast track Bill C-9, "the Combatting Hate Act" through Parliament. This bill is an attempt to squash and silence people's legal right to protest and strike.

If I may don the tinfoil cap for a second, I think the increasingly absurd restrictions on adult content also have the very much intentional side effect of restricting, if not wholly destroying avenues for (largely marginalized) people to provide for themselves, sidestepping a precarious job market.
