comparison is the thief of joy
unless iโm comparing myself to my past self, that guy is a real asshole who must be knocked down a peg

verdict: it's fine but nothing special and, more importantly, confirms that this is what i actually want from them

big arch time
โitโs totally doable, just luck into living on a bus line direct to your job, get a carsharing account for when you need an out of town trip, get all your groceries delivered, donโt have kidsโ
this is not a winning message to put it mildly
it can be done, but/and/also you really do need to restructure your life around it and/or accept some significant offsetting costs and/or lifestyle downgrades to do it, and unless youโre someone whose preferences match that profile itโs gonna be a hard adaptation
I find myself in a weird space in that i drive maybe 6k/year and find that egregious after spending my 20s/30s without a car at all, while also living in a smaller midwestern city and so able to vouch that it really is a pain/limiting factor
lol, lmao
"i don't know why everyone hates daylight saving time so much" says area man who, for no particular reason, slept in until 11 AM today
anyway the most obvious point of comparison for rimworld is "smaller scale and more accessible dwarf fortress"
fair enough! that said modding rimworld is significantly less of a pain in the ass than modding bethesda games
it is also one of those "moddable games" wherein one person's must-have mod might be called "Door Mats" and another person's must-have mod might be called "Cannibal Meals and Props"
(i'm the former i swear)
(this is one of my "leave running-but-paused overnight or even days at a time" games so that's not really active playtime but still)
he said what he said
*correction, vague awareness of S14-15 and one-off watched the S14 finale. duh
on closer review it looks like i tapped out after season 9, have some vague awareness of the events of S10-11 and S15-16, and pretty sure i one-off watched the finales of S11 and S15 (the latter's last 10? 15? minutes slapped)
starshine pretend you didn't see this, THE SHOW ENDED WITH SEASON 5
on the one hand, it does seem like the primary cast did genuinely enjoy making the show for almost all that time so y'know, good on them
but... yeah there's a very very very obvious break between "S1-S5, The Story As Intended" and "S6+, Fuck It We Ball"
one of my pettier gripes with the media is that none of them have had the balls to make up plausible but non-existent things to ask him. like "mr. president, are we attacking their munition stores in brigadoon"
i mean you can't use brigadoon because he's a failed theater kid at heart but you get it
seriously though, while I only watched up through like S8(?), S5 was the originally-intended series ender and serves as a very natural stopping point, and S2-S5 cover like 80% of the best episodes and exclude all the worst ones
there were no more seasons after that i don't know what these other people are talking about
yeah you could probably skip to like, the season finale of season 1. watch the "road thus far" clip and finale and go straight into season 2. seasons 2-5 are pretty solid MOTW plus ongoing serialization, with requisite CW brotherly melodrama

"that's not the hard part. it's letting go"
yeah, letting go of that POVERTY
i'm takin' all them gold bars brother
btw I'm still livid about the switch, have no desire to relitigate it or see its like ever again, and even I admit #3 is unquestionably true. The international comparison leaps off the page. You can't even call it vibes because it was everywhere
my enemies are real and so terrified of me that they are hiding. you can't see them but they're totally real and from canada. but i assure you, they're very very real
The reaction of oil markets in early March 2026 to the prospect of a closure of the Straits Of Hormuz will likely go down in the books as an example of an Eminently Knowable Yet Somehow Unknown Known.
i already wait like 2-4 weeks before i buy 90% of online purchases to force them through my own personal "do you really need this" filter, waiting a few extra days to avoid fees or get rewards is easy mode
Very analogous to financial stuff; itโs really hard to avoid picking up a couple misconceptions or to avoid every scam or bad investment idea
AND ALSO, itโs kind of on you if you dive head first into full-blown goldbuggery and associated insanities, it takes time and intent to delve that abyss
(I am people so I probably do too! Though Iโm not sure what itโd be, just because I try not to hold any beliefs too strongly in the first place)
