Joseph Smith and the Mormons (Noah Van Sciver)
A graphic novel, this book depicts the life of Joseph Smith entirely from the perspective of onlookers. It's very good and, as a graphic novel, a relatively quick read.

1. Mormons and the Bible (Barlow): unique in representing Mormon engagement with the Bible from Joseph Smith to the present day. Historical breadth PLUS emphasis on internal diversity.

2. The Power of Godliness (Stapley): <200 pages. Overview of the development of Mormon ritual over time, including ones that are less well-known (e.g., women's healing)
3. Holiness to the Lord (Stapley) <200 pages. FANTASTIC overview of Mormon temple worship, historically outlined & contextualized.
