For me, as far as rules go - no matter where you get ‘em, learn the basics and bookmark pages in your books/pdf for quick future reference when you need. Lore knowledge? Take or leave, especially if you’re starting characters. Learning the lore in chapter I find more exciting tbh

Never reveal the DM’s rolls! I fudge more dice on behalf of the players than against them, but they don’t need to see that.
