The Hiss is a hostile paranatural resonance that escaped from an alternative dimension, Slidescape-36. The FBC's only protection is the HRAs (Hedron Resonance Amplifiers), which counteract the Hiss resonance. While fighting continues, the threat has so far been contained within The Oldest House.
Essentially the boss's boss, The Board is a mysterious and powerful entity that resides in the Astral Plane. They dictate who becomes Director of the FBC; a role which allows the occupant to wield the otherworldly Service Weapon, but who also works under the strict and critical eye(s?) of The Board.
Objects of Power are Altered Items that are connected to the Astral Plane. They can be bound to a paraultiliarian, for instance, Jesse's Service Weapon, the Directoral Hotline (below), or Dylan's Aberrant. Bounding an OoP can help that individual wield the item's power.

Altered World Events are cases in which paranatural forces have impacted our reality, changing it in unpredictable and dangerous ways. The events of Alan Wake (2010) are classed by the FBC as the Bright Falls AWE. Find an AWE, and they may have an Object of Power or Altered Item.

Both Dylan's and Jesse's lives were impacted greatly following the Altered World Event in their home of Ordinary. As kids, the two discovered a slideshow projector which acted as a portal into other dimensions. Following a tragedy, Dylan was taken in by the FBC. Jesse escaped.

Jesse Faden, Dylan's older sister and the now-missing Director of the FBC. A powerful parautilitarian, Jesse was assigned the role by The Board after being led to the FBC by a familiar telepathic resonance-based entity called Polaris. She had been searching for Dylan for years.

Dylan's weapon in CONTROL Resonant is The Aberrant, an Object of Power, which can take multiple deadly forms. On demand, it can go from a heavy two-handed hammer to swift dual blades. Paired with Dylan's evolving powers, it provides fast-paced melee combat.

New to the world of Control? Meet Dylan Faden, a parautilitarian forcibly enlisted as a child into the FBC's hostile Prime Candidate Program. He was deemed by the bureau as hostile, unpredictable, and later considered a lost cause. He fell into a coma after being purged of The Hiss.
