Or maybe tessellation, which basically meant nanite clone which also meant other issues. I'm not a big fan of TSAA and nanite-like renderer would require it to avoid flickering mess on tiny triangles. So I sort of put it on hold for now. 😕

I came to the same conclusion when I was working on my renderer. Unfortunately the only way to avoid big triangles at the time was to implement fully virtualized geometry. 😕

Could be a lot of things but... triangle size perhaps? If compute shader is just rasterizing one tris per core and you schedule bunch of them to be rendered it's easy to have few big tris that waste a lot of perf time. In that case biggest tris in screenspace will always be the bottleneck. 😕
