I can understand that, but I think they're making a play to attract younger fans. It's a solid plan, since there have been so many new Star Trek shows running at nearly the same time. They can afford to spread their wings, I think.
The Doctor is my favorite, mostly because he was my favorite Voyager character. The only character I don't like of far is Darem, he seems like a formulaic high school bully. I'm hoping he gets better writing and depth.
