Fifty years ago, a controversial writer named Shere Hite taught us how to talk about sex and pleasure, selling books by the millions. Why do so few people know her name today? newyorkermag.visitlink.me/ro9k6C

Such an honour to have my book 'The Book that Taught the World to Orgasm and then Disappeared' written up in the @newyorker.com.
I've loved this mag since I was 12 and made my dad explain the articles to me.
A thoughtful, voicey review by Margaret Talbot:

100% reframing the approach from criminalisation to public health is a great idea!
Love you guys but why not include the salary here?
but maybe the first is worse because DRUGs! For my seventeen and a half year old son!!!!!!!
βWe support a womanβs right to chooseβ would have been a great option here!
and also, I think offering clarity on policy is fun and a privilege and way easier than beating say Reform and Labour!
I think its tough for them (us!!) right now. Going from a small party whose purpose is to push others and keep ideas alive to a major player. But yes, I'd personally like to know why legalisation not decriminalisation of drugs?
Booooring?! well maybe, but the way labour trashed the drugs policy was way too easy, and what's this wild stuff about "natural" birth? and NATO?
thrilled for Hannah, @greenparty.org.uk and the people of Gorton and Denton.
I also think there needs to be easily readable, smart and accessible information on the GP website clarifying policy and the ideas behind it ASAP!
wonderful to read this and sending you and your family warmest wishes.
my local park is full of hundreds of snow sculptures and someone has been adding museum labels
Also her husband never said he wanted the homeless woman removed? Or called the police? He just said he felt traumatised. perhaps he was traumatised not because she interrupted his journey but to see how badly the state had let this person down, and to know, and to feel, wow that could be me.
A reminder that I help co-ordinate a writing group for early career scholars/PhD students working on global feminism (broadly conceived!).
We meet every second month over zoom and read someone's chapter or article and offer feedback.
You can join, drop me a line here! Reposts welcome.
important!!!!!

Itβs hard because sexual violence really does make people go a bit mad.
Very sad to learn of the death of Heather Goodall, a brilliant historian and activist. She pioneered Aboriginal history in collaboration with Indigenous communities as well as leading the way in Australian environmental history. She was warm, generous, and immensely kind

follow the money!
@teamlabouruk.bsky.social could commit to ending the contract when its up for renewal in 27. They could do that right now. But no.
So, what can we do? You can find out if your NHS trust is using Palantir, and then email Wes! Takes 10 secs.
notopalantir.goodlawproject.org/email-to-tar...
Palantir is the company providing ICE agents with up to date street addresses.
ICE buy a Palantir app, so Palantir is profiting from deportations & death right now.
NHS England signed a contract with Palantir under the conservatives in 2023, but this continues under a Labour Government.

Late to the party but finally read this the other day and found it beautifully written, engaging and useful - there are many possible answers to 'what kinds of trans history should we be writing in The Current Momentβ’?', but this is one of them.
Hi Sam, this is so generous. I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks for your work, too.
fantastic piece and thanks for your work!
In advance of King Day tomorrow, I am resharing a piece about Coretta AND MLK as a reminder that they were a team. open.substack.com/pub/prisoncu...
