There's no longer any question: it's time to compensate transit riders for what they're going through. These pictures are heartbreaking - people going to evening shifts, home and family, class.

Some say that voting against a budget makes you part of the problem. I disagree. Healthy disagreement is part of responsible decision making. Residents expect us to test assumptions, debate ideas and make sure the budget reflects the realities they live with every single day.

Across Ottawa, from fairs and markets to townhalls and meetings, I’ve been hearing the same thing: people are frustrated and want a new direction for our city. We need a city that works, with reliable transit, strong services, repaired roads and community centres.
