Carney’s attempt to square this circle is the first time I’ve felt like he’s trying to dupe me. Like he can’t say he cares about international law while also saying he supports this illegal war. He can’t say he wants a diplomatic solution while ignoring that the JCPOA existed until Trump tore it up.
And I actually am a Carney fan. I like what he's doing on international trade. I think he's extremely hardworking & very likable. But he's lost me on this issue. Liberal MP Will Greaves (former international relations professor) did a short video on this that summarizes my views better than I can.
I have a doctorate in law, and did work for the UNDP. You'd be hard pressed to find a Canadian or international law scholar who thinks Canada's position is consistent or clear or even coherent. Spain is setting an example for moral clarity that we aren't.
Yeah, Anand that said the same thing about the US strikes on Venezuela boats. That's not how it works, and when our gov't presents it that way, it undermines international law (and then he claims the international order is failing.) He's not helping.
If you wouldn't ask murderers to make their case for why they didn't commit homicide, you should know better than to ask perpetrators of aggression to make the case of whether they violated international law.
It's not for Israel & the U.S. to decide if they violated int'l law 🤦♂️
