usually if you ask experts why an empire fell they’ll say it’s nuanced and multifaceted, so i think it’s kind of cool that with America future historians will get to just say like “oh they took the idiot train to moronsville”

My kingdom for a news article that describes how the US government pays for weapons to be manufactured and then gives the weapons themselves away. It's more like a war-as-jobs-program than a cash transfer.

If Erik Prince ends up SECDEF after you put this (back) into the universe I swear to god…
I agree Mattis was cringe but at least he had done an honest reckoning with the moral weight of making decisions that send people to their death. Hegseth gives the vibe that he thinks everyone else is an NPC in a game where he's the main character
I met Zach Randolph the Portland Jail/Trailblazer in a strip club for a friend's party and he was so drunk he couldn't remember his college basketball coach's name (he went to Michigan State)
My exact thought, in fact. Perhaps my saving grace is that my installation's AOR is INDOPACOM, the forever bridesmaid????
🥴 I have 89 days left in the Army
The nation’s dogs celebrate Kristi Noem getting fired.
In 2018 or so when I was a fellow I came into the ICU in the morning during a prolonged, unscheduled computer downtime and found multiple rooms where the resident had written orders on paper towel that didn’t include all the required elements. Nurses were so mad
Biggest error I’ve caught so far in the Pitt when the resident says “red is for arterial and blue is for venous” on the Doppler ultrasound. I was shouting
This shouldn't be necessary but every airline should immediately do the same.
they were gonna send Kristi Noem to a nice farm upstate but they were worried about the safety of the dogs
while doing my job in a children's hospital I had to talk to the entire hostage negotiation team of the large city policy department where the hospital was
Isaac Chotiner: Can you explain what happened?
Kuwaiti Pilot: I made a mistake. The airspace was very congested and I fired on what I believed was a threat.
IC: You believed a U.S. F-15 was a threat.
KP: In that moment, yes.
IC: What about after the second downing?
KP: Look I said I was wrong.
History is like a Rube Goldberg machine.
What began as paranoia about trans athletes in high school sports and an 18-month period of inflation, has somehow led to masked agents disappearing people off the streets, measles outbreaks, and decapitating the state in Venezuela and Iran.
The real heroes tonight are the direct action S2 shops printing out custom card decks of the top 52 IRGC officers
show them pictures of the mosquitos and see if the enthusiasm persists
You can bypass the Fly America rule if you fly OCONUS to OCONUS. Requires some itinerary chicanery though
When people thank me for my service I like to tell them about the many 6+ hour layovers that saved the government $65. We all have our coping mechanisms
When you consider that the alternative to DTS is having a random GS-5 book your flights like an 80s travel agent who has to follow an impenetrable book of baroque rules, it seems less bad
what sort of country puts children's schools on a military base………… oh
The command which has the means of Tomahawk production and targeting at its disposal, has control at the same time over the means of deterrence production, so that thereby, generally speaking, the ideas of those who lack the Tomahawks are subject to it. -Marx
Literally
Letting your child be used as a political prop is depraved and shameful
I don't think normies understand how much deploying the Comfort and/or Mercy fuck up the day to day operations of many Military Health System hospitals that are busy treating ADSMs, dependents, and retirees with too few staff already www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
“nothing is real until it hurts me” slogan replaces “don’t tread on me” slogan on a Gadseden flag
how we got here
There was another message a couple years back that I posted about on the Bad Place that was just a masterful combination of ownership, explanation, and empathy about a fraught situation with the schools and power outages or something like that. I quite like all the school administrators we have.
While I'd love not to need to redact the information to make this message attributable, I don't think that's the world we live in. Anyway, kudos to this superintendent. @michaelstahlke.bsky.social you see this?
I continue to be awed by the communications mastery from my kids' school district superintendent every time *something* happens. If this is possible from a small, suburban school district superintendent it is readily available to our national leaders and makes their failures more stark
