Oh yeah it's crazy how Marcus Garvey is probably one of the most polarizing historical black figures when I grew up thinking it was Malcolm X (who after I grew up and actually learned about him, is incredibly based)
I'm working on a Marcus Garvey essay btw so if you like that sort of stuff stay tuned I suppose
Lastly I think for as much as modern interpretation paints Garvey as hating white people, I seriously think he hated light skinned niggas more cause at least white people were being white but he REALLY didn't like race mixing and viewed those individuals as race traitors.
He called himself "The first fascist" and said Mussolini took the idea from him, I gotta find the source but that's just funny to me on some sort of level.
No cuz like after WW1 and he moved to America he saw the effects of black disillusionment and had the right idea to promote loving your black/African identity and then decided to take it 20 steps too far into fascism/anti-miscegenation
Marcus Garvey was pretty interesting.
He really went to the KKK on some "Listen we both want the same thing" timing. Like he wanted a Wizard to speak at a UNIA rally because they're both racial separatists.
