I pulled some data via @americansocceranalysis.com's {itscalledsoccer} and while home advantage has never started out so high in an MLS season since 2013, it is not quite the highest ever (only 98.41 percentile).

I suspect this is an aberration and it will bounce around just like it always has.

Why don’t more football teams place players on the side of the box for penalties? A tweak that a handful of teams are using could result in a curious marginal gain

Niche content: Corinthians Feminino put a player on either side of the box at penalties, rather than having everyone behind the box. I used Pythagoras’ theorem for the first time since my GCSEs and watched 50 saved penalties to see if others should do it too. ⬇️

So for years MLS was the most homefield advantage-heavy league in the world, though that had been fraying a bit the past half-decade.

Well, guess what? So far in 2026 home teams are 15W-1L-3D. And the home teams are both winning the 7:30 games, which, if they hold on, makes it 17-1-3.

This season has the highest roster turnover since I started tracking this prior to the 2019 season, but there are no statistically significant differences in any of the seasons.

Another two points dropped. Arsenal are 8 points better off vs equivalent fixtures last season. If results match last season's for the rest of 25/26, final totals:

Didn’t mention last summer, didn’t mention striker age

Although to those points, spurs did spend massively on attackers (Kudus and Simons)

And Isak is only a year younger than Osimhen

If Galatasaray go on to the next round, they will face Liverpool or Tottenham, both teams that spent big on strikers who are not Osimhen

I get asked this by MLS staffers regularly. If the clicks and views weren’t rocking with Ravi (who I consider to be one of THE best in the whole league) then it’s not gonna happen yet folks

@akeaswaran.me made this neat graph of a quick strength of schedule model. Really interesting to see how relative difficulty between the front and back parts of the season may drive narratives. Neville might find his seat pretty hot, while Varas is my pick for COTY winner w/ a likely hot start.
