I finally updated Wiz's ref after like 3 or 4 years or something. Huge thanks to fox_tusk on bird site and my friend Bottles for the character pieces. Rest of the composition is by yours truly :3

i love old Sony stuff because they'll do shit like make the exterior boards fold out (nice) and then hide more boards inside under a complete rats' nest of wires (not nice). how the fuck am i supposed to get to that? it is time for a drink

probably Rifa line filtering caps on the AC input, the monitor will work totally fine without them, they're just there to try to reduce noise. known to explode in this period of equipment all the time

i think the XD88 takes the cake for "best built computer I've ever worked on" - the chassis is all aluminum, boards are all 12+ layer, they used absolute top shelf parts. it's built like their test equipment in the best way possible

they are the 88100 cpu and 8x 88200 cmmu supporting chips. you didn't actually need that many, most designs used like two '200s, but Tektronix were insane and decided "yeah let's use ALL OF THEM"

back in ye olden days when TVs had tubes, x-rays were a pretty big concern, especially in the high voltage section b/c things get weird past 20kV. one of the "fixes" for this was to just jacket the offending tube with like a pound of lead. i think u could kill someone with this

i think it's quite charming they gave it its own patent number and everything. like hey man, it might be fake, but we're trying our best here
