What does a Dr do when a patient could benefit from medication-assisted treatment (MAT), but they dont have much experience treating substance use disorder?

🎨Calling all artists! 🎨
The ADPC invites you to enter its Art Contest! We need an image to accompany our 2026-2030 plan to address substance use. The theme of the plan is, “Opening Doors: Achieving access, belonging and connection across Oregon."

“Above all, we couldn't do our job at the ADPC if it weren't for people in recovery,” ADPC Director Annaliese Dolph said, on the power of advocacy. “If you ever think it's not worth telling your story, your path to recovery, I can guarantee you it's making a difference.”
“Changes in Medicaid are going to impact us all,” Rep. Shannon Jones Isadore said. The question now, she said, is “how we continue to do this work, in spite of. We’re going to still be in the work… It’s going to give us the opportunity to get creative, and maybe do something bigger and better.”
However, Rep. Sanchez says, “We are determined to make sure we put ourselves in a place where we can continue funding core services.”
At the Oregon Recovers #RecoveryCommunitySummit, Rep. Tawna Sanchez (at left, with Rep. Shannon Jones Isadore) says the state’s budget deficit has made it difficult to robustly fund behavioral health systems, as Oregon has in previous years...

🤝"The opposite of addiction is connection." 🤝
It's a well-known adage that gets to the heart of the power of Recovery Community Centers. Recovery Café in Medford is the perfect example of that. Founder & Executive Director Stephanie Mendenhall gave us a tour:

"HB 3321, the result of months of work among drug addiction and prevention experts, advocates and families, would require the state Alcohol and Drug Policy Commission to develop a state strategy based on the latest research to prevent drug use and addiction."

We've received some great feedback from across the state on the 2026-2030 Comprehensive SUD Plan, thanks largely to the Solutions Engagement Tour, hosted by Oregon Recovers. Here's a recap:

"Teens and families in Oregon struggling with addiction cannot wait another decade for help. Regardless of the many needs Oregon must fund, legislators can no longer ignore the gaping holes in our youth care system."- ADPC Chair Tony Vezina

Great example of how employers can support their workforce's behavioral health.
TY to @senlisareynolds.bsky.social & Oregon DHS for raising awareness of the risks of using marijuana while caring for an infant.

"The risk of sleep-related death is 10 times higher for babies who share a bed with someone who is fatigued or has used a substance or taken medications that make it harder for them to wake up"

When it comes to improving the regulatory & fiscal strategies for substance use prevention, “we have a lot to think about in terms of not only assessing needs but assessing the programs purportedly supporting those needs." -ADPC senior policy analyst Wes Rivers
New blog post: Even just giving teens permission to take a sip of alcohol is linked to increased risk of harms, data shows. New research shows that it doesn't matter at what age parents give kids permission to take their first sip -- at age 11 or age 17, it's still risky.
