I hate ChatGPT as much as anyone, but I don't actually think my students are using it that much. The majority of their papers are filled with the types of grammatical and stylistic errors that AI weeds out. Like most things related to this issue, I think the crisis might also be overblown.

When DOGE Unleashed ChatGPT on the Humanities

As someone who watched the careful stewardship of grants over many years, the lack of care and the dismissal of the hard work of scholars and NEH program staff described here is devastating and shameful.

The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.

And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.

See the problem here?

This too, is a form of social Darwinism; one that always accompanies fantasies about leaving the weak "behind." I encountered this eugenicist futurism in early primatology, when ppl speculated whether primates could be used to circumvent child labor and anti-slavery laws.

It was transforming the biggest NFL stage in the world into a sugar cane plantation that did it for me.

Like, the multiple layers of turning an American icon into a plantation and highlighting the history of exploitation of Black and Brown bodies by the NFL and American colonialism simultaneously?

7 Reasons Teens Say No to AI Some young people only turn to artificial-intelligence chatbots as a last resort, citing concerns about relationships, creativity, the environment and more.

As these teens describe, AI can diminish human relationships; devalue art; threaten the environment; lead to laziness; give unreliable results; pose privacy concerns; and be misused.

So, please, stop with the narratives of inevitability and let's embrace a pedagogy and politics of refusal.

Would love to read a book on what this convergence represents. It’s funny how the description is always an inversion of what it is - as if the more it isn’t true the harder it has to be pressed home.

I'm surprised people didn't know this at this point. These are surveillance machines.
