Did you ever go to Marvel Mania?
That is such a wonderful comic book moment. The kind that makes me tear up a little. Like whenever Batman says he fights crime so that no other kids will have to go through what he went through.
What is your #1 draw to the character?
happy #valentinesday from Stud and Astro! Hope your love is a scorcher! perry-crowe.square.site #comicsky #comicbooks #love
Such a time capsule! I wore a Daredevil mask to the screening i went to. Props to it starting in media res, but it just didn’t quite do the job.
Early Steve Lieber! Holy cow! Love his work on My Bad!
Mm! Love a good backroom sale. Picked up the first issue of Starlin’s Gilgamesh II in a $2 bin. Really dug it and then picked up the rest on eBay. Is Dreadstar in my future?
Cabin Boy
Ravenous
Yeah, I think you could move characters to new ideas. Or you just tell the story again in a more refined way, like how Evil Dead 2 was basically a remake of the original but also very different—a lot more personality and style. But I understand your protective feelings for your characters :)
You’ll get better the more you write, and you’ll always have more ideas, so just take a crack at one :)
That is a great character design—Love the body language too!
Hopefully there is also a cameo by Train Daddy
This comic book panel features the Silver Surfer in mid-flight, his iconic silver form blazing with light trails. He's depicted against a vibrant, abstract background filled with swirling, colorful lines in shades of pink, yellow, and blue, suggesting speed and disorientation. In the foreground, stylized buildings and what appear to be tiny cars suggest an urban environment below. A speech bubble from the Surfer declares, "--AND SMASH IT HEAD-ON!", conveying a sense of urgency and determination. The overall mood is energetic and action-packed.
This comic panel features a close-up of a character, likely a wizard, with his eyes closed and a serene, knowing smile on his face. He wears a distinctive yellow pointed hood layered over a light blue collar, cinched with a blue cloak. His hand, resting over his chest, is adorned with a circular, green and white amulet. The vibrant colors and bold lines suggest a dramatic or mystical narrative. The text above reads, "SOMEWHERE, A WIZARD SMILES IN HIS SLEEP," adding an element of intrigue and foreshadowing.
A comic panel features five identical, muscular male figures, identified as "Namors," advancing from left to right. They are shirtless, wearing green, scaled leggings with gold trim. Each Namor has dark hair, arched eyebrows, and stern, scowling expressions, exuding a sense of power and grim determination. A speech bubble from the upper left reads, "TO OUR RIGHT: FIVE NAMORS!" This suggests a formidable enemy or a powerful force being revealed.
This comic panel depicts a dramatic battle scene. A warrior, seen from behind, with blonde hair in a braid and a flowing blue cape, wields a glowing blue sword. They have just decapitated a large, ferocious green serpent. Blood and red mist spurt from the serpent's severed neck, and its headless body writhes in agony. The serpent's remaining head, with glowing red eyes, glares menacingly and shouts the word "MISSSSSSSSSSSED!" in a speech bubble, indicating a failed attack or escape. Surrounding the combatants is a swirling pink mist, adding to the chaotic and intense atmosphere of the fight.
Continuing my year of #marvel Unlimited app and loving this Defenders run by Super Sal Buscema! His style really crystalizes quickly. Reminds me of Alan Davis on Captain Britain! Thanks to @figuredaction.bsky.social for the Defender tip! 100% that Val kicks it into a new gear! #comicbooks #comicsky
Seeing that image, you get what Sue Storm sees in him
Interesting! I know Transformers mostly from the original show back in the ‘80s. So I always found the live-action movies weirdly grim and hyper violent. But I guess the bots get slaughtered pretty good in that original movie. And if IDW was depressing, maybe that is just the overall TF vibe!
What was the most torturous part of the comic? I read a Headmasters miniseries from Marvel from back in ‘80s. It was wild!
This black and white manga panel depicts a highly stylized, intense scene. A character's head is shown in extreme close-up, their face contorted in a scream and covered with densely packed Japanese text, giving a surreal, disorienting effect. Harsh, angular lines and speed lines radiate from behind the figure, suggesting intense action or psychic energy. Two hands, rendered with detail, are positioned as if confronting or interacting with the character. The overall mood is one of chaos, high drama, and overwhelming sensory input.
This striking artwork reimagines "The Creation of Adam," with a muscular man, intricately tattooed with cherry blossoms, lying wounded. Blood stains his white cloth wrap and blood streaks his face, his expression showing pain and defiance. He reaches upwards towards a hand emerging from stylized white clouds, mirroring Michelangelo's iconic pose. The background transitions from a vivid red to an orange glow, resting on a base of marbled blues and greens evoking water or stylized waves. The imagery merges classical art with Japanese tattoo culture and a narrative of struggle and hope.
This is a manga panel depicting a chaotic and dramatic scene of aerial and aquatic combat. In the top panel, a figure wearing a winged glider soars across a grey sky above a stormy, wave-tossed sea. The middle and bottom panels shift focus. One section shows powerful, shadowy tentacles erupting from the water, creating a threatening, dynamic effect. Another shows a figure in mid-air, seemingly falling and being wrapped by a large, serpentine tentacle. Close-ups reveal the distressed expressions of individuals and the imposing, mechanical armor of a character. The art style is monochromatic with bold lines, emphasizing the intense action and danger.
This is a black and white illustration, framed and matted, featuring a young girl with large, expressive eyes at the center. She wears a traditional kimono adorned with a geometric pattern. Flanking her are three mythological or animalistic figures: to her left, a deer with prominent antlers; to her right, a creature resembling a wolf or boar; and behind her, a fluffy, bird-like being with wide, staring eyes. Each figure holds a staff or candle holder, and they are all depicted with a somewhat solemn or mysterious expression, creating an atmospheric and intriguing scene.
Caught the #Art of #Manga exhibit at @deyoungmuseum.bsky.social during the run’s extension (thank you!). I don’t know manga as well as I should, so this was a great crash course. Will definitely be following up on Taniguchi Jiro’s “Ice Age Chronice of the Earth” (third pic). #comicsky #comicbooks
In a stark, snowy landscape with jagged mountains, the metallic Silver Surfer stands amidst several large, brown, hairy, ape-like beings. He gently touches the head of one creature, which looks down at him. The scene evokes a sense of wonder and discovery. A speech bubble from one of the creatures directly addresses the viewer, stating, "I MADE FRIENDS EASILY..." while a caption above describes the inhabitants as "simple, child-like folk" who are "profoundly curious."
Sorry to see you go, Sal Buscema. I remember not being into his style as a kid when he was doing Web of Spider-Man, but I came up in the #comicbooks of the extreme 90s, an era that hasn’t really aged well. But Sal has aged like fine wine. Here he is wilding out on the Defenders #comicsky #supersal
I just got the Marvel Unlimited app and have been looking for stuff to read. From your description, Defenders sounds right up my alley. Thanks for the recommendation!
Now *that* was a show! So much fun.
Damn, his pinky looks crazy in the last panel. Monkey’s paw?
Go for it! I didn’t write my first comic until I was in my 40s. (Though maybe I got the “am I too old to give advice?” thing)
Is that The Creeper from Squadron Supreme?
Solid hair all around.
Loved that Superboy run! Grummett was a real treat.
I talked Alanis Morissette on AIM. (I mean, who else would’ve used the screen name “Alanis2280” and know so much about You Can’t Do That on Television?)
I’m guessing #sdcc initially thought AI art was AAAAAAA art, which is of course always acceptable. #comicbooks #comicsky #thefonz #thehappydaysareyoursandmine
Have you even read the original run of New Warriors? I absolutely loved that back in the day. Not sure if it is too ‘90s to age well, but it had great team dynamics and some fairly heady themes. Fabian Nicieza wrote it, and that guy doesn’t get enough praise. Plus Mark Bagley’s first major work.
Love Born Again! DD was the first comic I collected when I started reading back in the ‘80s, so I read Born Again in pieces as I bought back issues. I liked Squadrom Supreme too—dense but super cool! I need to check out that Avengers run. Thanks for the recommendation! Busiek! Such a talent!
