Today we remember St. Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna, martyr, and one of the great Apostolic Fathers of the early Church. A disciple of St. John the Apostle and ordained bishop of Smyrna, Polycarp stood in direct witness to the faith handed down from the Apostles. St. Polycarp, pray for us.

Today the Church honors Saint Paul Miki & his Companions, martyrs of Japan. St. Paul Miki, a Jesuit priest, & 25 companions were executed in Nagasaki for proclaiming the Gospel. As he died on the cross, he preached forgiveness & faith in Christ, a witness of hope amid suffering.
