Figure 2: Fields vary widely in their consensus around top-5 venues and the general alignment of their prefer- ences. Whether one uses a field-level ranking constructed from the pairwise comparisons of all respondents in a field to predict an individual’s pairwise comparisons (horizontal axis) or assesses the degree to which individuals in a field agree on a top-5 (vertical axis), some fields (e.g. Economics) demonstrate a much more overlapping and organized set of preferences than others (e.g. Computer science).
Academic fields differ in their degree of consensus about what "better" publication venues are — here shown both for consensus about the "top 5" and for pairwise choices.

I have just come across a case of academic fraud -- a paper with citations to non-existing papers. I know that this is happening elsewhere but I am furious. Too many people -- editors & referees -- put in too much time (often unpaid) trying to ensure quality for this to be even remotely acceptable.
This is consistent with earlier psychometric work that suggests 5-7 is the best response scale options, but good to see that the finding holds up in contemporary research. Also, good to see that labeling scales whether anchored or not has little impact on findings. academic.oup.com/ijpor/articl...

Javascript code for a noncentral t cdf produced by Claude. It is simply a call to the normal CDF, which is not correct (though will be a decent approximation with large N).
I've been testing Claude to see how well it can "vibe out" a stat. power app that I've already coded completely myself - so I know what I want. It mostly gets things right with animations (those are easily verifiable) but looking into the backend stats code is nightmare inducing (see pic).
