Buried deep into this week's long ass issue of Check Book, I wrote just about 2,500 words—many of them embarrassing—about my favorite movies of 2025.
2003 NY Times article about Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World "At the end of their meeting Mr. Rothman reached behind his chair. ''What I really think you should do,'' he said, pulling out a mock captain's sword and presenting it to the director, ''is take command of the Surprise.'' Mr. Weir asked if he could keep the sword."
This is how all film executives should be.
If only
It would be so funny if I were hyping up losing my job for like weeks/months. Maybe that's how I'll do it when it finally happens.
Tomorrow.
I am rewatching this now, and I cannot believe how much more a second watch unlocks in what was already such a transcendent experience the first time through. A miracle of a movie.
For the evening crowd: right on time, I wrote about my favorite movies of 2025, a year we all still love to think about and discuss.
It really is so funny that this post is just:
- a list of things Griffin liked
- a list of things David liked
- a list of things Joe liked
- a list of things Ben liked
- a list of things the listeners liked
- a list of things Marie liked
- a swelling and sweating mass of my fixations of the year
Writing film criticism for more than one of the 365 days each year? Couldn’t be me. Or could it…
Not against the rules they were just being broadly xenophobic for fun
Thank you, Rob. I hope that is the same word my therapist uses on Thursday.
