#OTD in 1989, the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Re-upping my op-ed w/ Madhura Balasubramaniam, written on his 88th b'day this year, where we argue that in recognition of six decades of service to our land and our people, India must confer the #BharatRatna upon the #DalaiLama.

Reminded me of this photo.
And look forward to reading the book!
The great migration is underway.

It's that time of year again! We're collecting monographs, journal articles, and book chapters published in 2023 by historians working off the tenure track. Lists will be published the week after US Thanksgiving. Use the form to submit your work--or that of a friend! 🗃️
Excited to be part of a panel on #Tibetan Muslim Perspectives at the #Tibet Film Festival in Berlin today with filmmaker Omyer Lassu.

A big shoutout to the good folks at Rang De!
Had invested in two agripreneurs, both of whom have fully repaid their loans with interest.
Do consider supporting this initiative which provides "affordable credit to unbanked communities”.

Spoke to a loved one, recently widowed, in their sixties, about
cultivating friends, interests, and routines after years of being a caregiver.
Remembered how scary it had seemed at inflection points, traumatic transitions…
May we all be held in a tribe and a purpose at every life stage.
Looking to connect with folks working on #Tibet, #Himalaya, #Bhutan, #Sikkim, and #Buddhism. Grateful for any leads.

Just finished teaching a module on #DH for a postgrad research methods course. Every year, I start w/ @miriamkp.bsky.social's "How did they make that?"-- a la @scholarslab.bsky.social's Praxis program. Students have consistently found it an approachable and inviting introduction-- thanks, Miriam!
Cover of book called Himalayan Art in 108 Objects, showing a sculpture of a Buddha from Kashmir.
View inside the book, showing a picture of a 16th century Bhutanese temple and an accompanying essay about it.
It’s here & holy hardback, it’s gorgeous! I’m thrilled to be among the contributing scholar-specialists in this treasure trove for teaching on the Himalaya. If your budget (or biceps) can’t bear it right now, no problem—all the essays are available open access at projecthimalayanart.rubinmuseum.org
Likewise!
Thanks, Amanda! Miss everyone at the SLab!

Hello!
I am Swati from O.P. Jindal Global University. Thanks to Chris Sawula and @quinnanya.bsky.social for helping me get on the platform, and to @samplereality.bsky.social for the DH feed that's getting me reconnected to the DH community here.
Look forward to meeting folks!
Sending you love.
I recently saw an academic (no need to name & drag for these purposes) complain that academics use bluesky for the self-promotional purpose of... linking to their own newly-published articles.
Let me throw in my voice & vote on the other side. One of the things I really value about social media 1/
“I don’t understand it, but I feel understood by it.”
— A student said yesterday of the faith she was raised in. May we all be so lucky. 😇
