society reorients it's values around it's cultural mediums, this is what our society has become reorienting around twitter. the video game aspect is ancillary. cruelty, detachment and lack of humanity are the hallmark values of X and is what we see displayed here by our government.

Napa Boys rocks. I hope you are blessed to see it with an audience.

I dont know if anyone can quite do what Nick Corirossi does and Napa Boys is all the way. A miracle.

Man, Dan invited me in that day just so I could watch them do that scene. Absolute a career highlight for me.

I think they spent half the time in the greenroom talking JFK evidence.

True hero and legend.

Gen AI is a machine that destroys intellectual property.

Literally the promise is that, as soon as a thing is made, the robot can eat it and do it forever for free. Software, art, whatever. The only hedge is that it's not that good at it yet.

Just unreal that "IP: The Company" doesn't see this.

I’m sure that to do the OpenAI deal, Disney was inspired by all the hugely popular AI-made videos of their IP that don’t involve Mickey shooting a cop. Oh, those don’t exist? Not even one?

A very overlooked aspect of the social media flatening of the internet that’s getting worse in the AI internet. It used to be much easier to spot crazy people online. All these tools seem purpose built to allow the delusional and dangerous to get credibility and followers instead of help.

kind of amazing that the major advancement of Big Tech this decade has been from inventing a technology that makes people WANT to kill themselves to creating one that TELLS them to do it.

Agree, but isn’t it already?

I think the key is diminishing these platforms substantially as far as the amount of time, attention and resources they get.

They are an organ in the body of the internet, essential and provide an important function but if your body became 90% kidney you’re fucked.

My crazy idea is social media should make income from referral links to other websites that are monetized through ads, subscriptions or purchases.

This alligns incentives so social is subservient to the open web and primarily for jokin and sharing and linking to places that actually make things.

The Jeffrey Epstein: Bad Pedophile title screen

A very big Onion announcement:

The Onion has spent the last two months working on a masterpiece.

It's a documentary titled Jeffrey Epstein: Bad Pedophile.

It's so good, in fact, we were set to release it in theatres nationwide on October 2nd.

Then two weeks ago, Charlie Kirk was shot.

A quoted source in the article: Brendan Carr is trying to lift what's called the national media cap so that stations like Nexstar and Sinclair and Gray TV can buy up more TV stations to basically to grow and better compete with big tech entities in the streaming services. Broadcasters have a long time been allies of Republicans, however, ironically, the biggest opponent of this effort is OAN and Chris Ruddy of Newsmax, because they are cable networks and they do not want conservative media outlets to grow and compete with them. They would rather just compete with Fox News and let the Sinclairs and the Nexstars just never be big enough to fight. The problem is that Chris Ruddy is very tight with Trump. This is all an audience of one dynamic.

Author's commentary now: So, Carr and Ruddy are competing for Trump’s attention on a vision for the media future. This battle has more to do with why ABC affiliates gladly served up Kimmel’s head on a platter than anything Jimmy said this week. Kimmel’s scalp is a gesture from Carr and merger-desperate affiliates that suggests a network TV scenario where pro Trump voices aren’t completely shut out. Apologies for being terminally millennial, but it reminds me of the β€œGet a gift, give a gift,” kidnapping of Hungry Man in The Wire. Yes, Jimmy Kimmel is Hungry Man in this scenario.

You can argue with Ethan's larger take in this (lord knows I am) but this is very interesting from his source. It indicates this wasn't just Nexstar sucking up to Carr but Carr sucking up to Trump to win for his bros over the Newsmax guy.

It's all just fucking royal intrigue bullshit now.

WGA Statement on ABC's Decision to Pull β€˜Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
The right to speak our minds and to disagree with each other - to disturb, even - is at the very heart of what it means to be a free people. It is not to be denied. Not by violence, not by the abuse of governmental power, nor by acts of corporate cowardice.
As a Guild, we stand united in opposition to anyone who uses their power and influence to silence the voices of writers, or anyone who speaks in dissent. If free speech applied only to ideas we like, we needn't have bothered to write it into the Constitution. What we have signed on to - painful as it may be at times - is the freeing agreement to disagree.
Shame on those in government who forget this founding truth. As for our employers, our words have made you rich.
Silencing us impoverishes the whole world.
The WGA stands with Jimmy Kimmel and his writers.
