Exactly this! A good many US English terms have an origin in UK dialects, including "gotten", "soccer", "diaper", "fall", "pants", "high school" and many others! British English is not monolithic

Every single time I've been at the Eurostar waiting area in St Pancras it's been overcrowded and busy. I suspect this is due to the security and border checks taking up a lot of the space, plus changes to Eurostar's checking in times, which were not envisioned when this space was designed.

Many people are, like me, travelling from Newcastle to Paris today. Unlike me, most of these people are going to the Newcastle United vs Paris St Germain football match. I, however, am attending something far more interesting - a PhD soutenance (viva/defense) tomorrow morning!
