I'd love to come (and see you!) but my research isn't a good fit for any of the workshops, alas. (My LabPhon course is actually doing a corpus project this semester but it won't be ready in time for the abstract deadline.)

Also, reviewer, prefacing your review with "I'm really sorry to be mean" doesn't absolve you of writing a mean review 😭😂

LabPhon decisions are out! Who else will I not be seeing in Montreal? (Yeah I got rejected because my research is too radical for The Man)

Exactly this! A good many US English terms have an origin in UK dialects, including "gotten", "soccer", "diaper", "fall", "pants", "high school" and many others! British English is not monolithic

"Caouissin ... would like to think the language will follow a similar path to Welsh, which has enjoyed a revival over the past half-century and is spoken by 538,000 people"
People keep getting this wrong about Welsh! There has not been a "revival". Let me explain. 1/

Single backpack also means that I can cycle to my hotel, instead of vegetating on the metro/RER. I've always enjoyed cycling in Paris, and it feels like every time I visit there's some new infrastructure or rule that makes it easier and more fun.

You'd think that they could do something about it, though. There's e.g. plenty of space on the platforms they could let people use, which would help it to feel more like a train station rather than a depressing airport.

Every single time I've been at the Eurostar waiting area in St Pancras it's been overcrowded and busy. I suspect this is due to the security and border checks taking up a lot of the space, plus changes to Eurostar's checking in times, which were not envisioned when this space was designed.

Many people are, like me, travelling from Newcastle to Paris today. Unlike me, most of these people are going to the Newcastle United vs Paris St Germain football match. I, however, am attending something far more interesting - a PhD soutenance (viva/defense) tomorrow morning!
