I haven't posted in a while and thought I would give an update on my progress. I have been trying to grind out portraits and work on proportions and this is the first one I've done where I don't feel it's terrible. #graphiteart #drawing #portrait

Nerdy Sysadmin/Devops guy who is into nerdy things. Deeply connected to things that let me work with my hands and mind. Love writing, reading, guitar, programming, the 80s and 90s, TTRPGs, video games, and tattoos. Dad to one son and two cats.

This is the first time in history where a new, world changing technology that from the start has actually frightened me. Now seeing the real human costs starting to mount, it's horrifying. There is a devastating human cost to their implementation and the people who should care, don't.
A close friend of mine is a developer and he and I have been talking a lot as I have been learning to code. One thing that he said managers tend to overlook is when code bases shrink, that's a really good thing. But they can't measure shrinking as a positive metric so they choose to ignore it.
how a horse farmers felt at the start of the popularization of the car. Trying to figure out if I go deeper and specialize or pivot and learn a trade skill.
I work in IT and it's gutting seeing all these doors that used to be wide open and happy to take me, suddenly slamming closed. Above that is seeing friends and former co-workers who are very talented getting laid off because AI is replacing them. I don't know what to do but I feel a bit like
6 months of progress. I've been doodling for a while but back in July of 2025 I decided to actually make an attempt to get better. #graphitedrawing #drawing #art
Study I did last night on anatomy and then added a study on rust and cracked ceramic. #graphite #drawing
A graphite drawing of a famous painting by Francisco Goya of the God Saturn eating his adult child, chewing on the arm of the body that is missing the head. Its dark and unnerving with Saturn lacking features and fades into the black background.
Today i set a 20 min timer and tried my hand at Saturn Devouring His Son by Goya. One of my all time favorite paintings. I cheated slightly and did the background after the 20 mins were up.
Well the Half-Sword launch is ...not going well. That's disappointing, I was really looking forward to that game.
Yesterday I got to the section in my drawing class about sighting. This morning I sketched this as a test. I know proportions are still off, but I am excited by the progress.
I find it funny that you don't have a single non-AI post. The apps are probably AI coded too. No thank you.
@seventeenth.bsky.social I just wanted to reach out and let you know what a big fan of yours I am. I've loved your works and have a few prints hanging up in my home. Your use of color, composition and imagery are astounding and are a big reason why I want to peruse art. Thank you!
Exhausted but someone wants to play.
If they yawn much bigger, they're gonna turn inside out! What a cutie.
Been listening to your music and loving it, thank you for that! Wish I could make the streams. Have a good one though!
I wish I could afford to take a day off. Is there something I can do instead? I'm fine with the no shopping and just staying home after but I do have to work.
I wasn't following the game but my entire neighborhood exploded in cheers and fireworks. I was really confused for a few minutes
I used to have a friend that worked at our local arcade and his boss was the father of a different friend of ours. Needless to say, we never paid for games unless the games returned an actual prize item instead of just tickets.
Trying to work on negative space exercises. I picked up the Drawing on the Right Side Of The Brain and have been slowly making my through but it has radically changed how I draw.
Wonderful abstract of a bearded man. Love it.
I like to slice string cheese and put that on saltines. Is that fancy?
Beautiful impasto work. Such a gorgeous painting.
I collect lego, as an adult, but I do not understand the desire to have a blocky, oddly shapped statue of cool looking things. I'd much rather have a set that is like a cool building, or an actually good Star Wars set that is not the millennium falcon.
Your paintings feel a lot like Hiroshi Nagai's. I say this as a compliment because he is one of my favorite painters of all time. My father grew up in Maine and I spent some time there as a child and your art is intensely nostalgic in a way I cannot describe, just like Nagai's
Very nice! Makes me feel nostalgic for a summer I never spent there.
I really love art that focuses on the economy of brush strokes. This piece is really well done. You've said a lot in it and your work shows love and dedication.
Financially, im fine. Donate to charity
This is really beautiful color and contour work. Do you do your pieces in situ or do you take a photo and work from that?
The technical skill is incredible. Genuine question: what draws you to photo-realistic portraits? I find myself more moved by emotionally expressive work, so I'm curious what this approach means to you as an artist.
