Reform win a seat: The true Volk have spoken and we all must listen.
Greens win a seat: Early reports that Muslims may have βvotedβ (an ancient Islamic practice designed to steal elections). How severely should the franchise be limited in response?
Not exactly what you asked but LSE is hiring in refugee and asylum law. (At the law department.)
Even on βlegitimate concernsβ where is the evidence that boat crossings are a major source of pressure on services and communities? Sheβs pushing people to Reform as they will now be confirmed in their (false) belief that their lives would be radically changed by less unauthorized migration.
I donβt know who needs to hear Jesse Jackson leading the kids on Sesame Street in this beautiful call-and-response reminding them that every child is somebody, but here it is
As things stand, Brenda Andrew will be killed by the government because of how she dressed, whom she slept with, and slut-shaming rumors about her. I signed an amicus brief arguing that her trial was unconstitutionally discriminatory because of the gross sex stereotyping present at her trial.
The richest man on earth owns X.
The family of the second-richest man owns Paramount, which owns US TV network CBS, and could soon own Warner Bros, which owns CNN.
The third-richest man owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
The fourth-richest man owns the Washington Post and Amazon MGM Studios.
Microecon textbooks begin with people freely making rational choices to satisfy their preferences. But Iβm struck how much expansion of global capitalism was in fact driven by trade in stimulants or addictive goodsβtea, tobacco, sugar, opium, coffee. Surely someone has written about this?
1. Fenway Health shamefully dropped trans youth to save LGB cisgender peopleβa calculation based on fear and willingness to become agents of this administration.
I issue my call for Fenway to return to its roots and care for those the government casts aside.

We condemn the horrific antisemitic attack on Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in north Manchester, that killed two people. This attack is particularly abhorrent as it occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish religious calendar. Antisemitism must be rooted out of society. Our deepest condolences go to the loved ones of those killed. Our thoughts are also with all those injured and affected by this horrific crime. It's vital that we promote peace, unity and mutual respect and stand together against hatred and division at this difficult time. Those poor goats though.
Lovely.
We took a close look at Split Ticket's WAR metric, which has become influential in Democratic circles for suggesting moderates significantly outperform progressives.
Our finding: The metric contains systematic biases that overstate the advantage of moderation. A corrected model shows no advantage.π§΅
If claims fascism is sweeping the western world seem exaggerated, it's worth reflecting on how Microsoft came to disable the email account of the chief prosecutor at the UN since he issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, & why it's not really being reported anywhere...

Which is ironic given that Locke refuted Yarvin several hundred years agoβ¦
Hereβs Lockeβs response to the claim that everyone is safer under an absolute ruler
Hobbes actually makes this argument that an absolute ruler would have no interest in plundering his own country. Unfortunately Yarvin seems unaware of this or the fact that Locke and history have clearly refuted the argument.
There are plenty of Hamas fighters who occasionally (not often) plant bombs and shoot at Israeli forces. There are cells that hold the hostages. Not much else is there. Hamas in Gaza is destroyed. The Israeli cabinet could have declared victory long ago.

also great job!
So great to see you this. Heβs amazing.
Well done, Governor. Crucial work despite the difficult circumstances.
Obviously, since this is in the Economist (which: awesome), I can't say "why won't the media cover this?!"
But still not seeing it covered w same urgency as a crime spike.
And showing crime is falling IS an urgent issue, given that Trump wants to use fear of crime to justify "unleashing" police.
Absolutely. And presumably the uncertainty in the meantime about the scope of exceptions will lead many people to leave or decide not to come, to the great detriment of both individual and country.
Island of Spirit. Or maybe Island of Togetherness.
(Harkening back to the Blitz spirit of togetherness.)
A happy, kind boy is such a blessing to the world. Happy Motherβs Day.
2. migration debate should have a nuanced focus on all of the complicated potential benefits and burdens of different forms of migration. It makes no sense to throw students, asylum seekers, care workers, etc. in one basket. Or to avoid discussing what the real effects are of each form of migration
1. UK immigration debate is bizarrely focussed on total numbers. Suppose someone did a poll on βHow many books should there be in the local library?β That obviously would be a useless questionβwhich kinds of book are talking about? What needs are there? How much space is there? Similarly,

Given the local election results in the UK, a short #thread - based on much of our own research - on the vicious cycle of radical right support that we have seen in many countries.
1) When radical right parties (such as Reform) are electorally successful established parties move right on immigration
