Slop is cheap and you can make a lot of it really fast. If your company wants to make cheap slop quickly, AI is perfect for the job.
If you want to make something good or high quality... Well...
Building things yourself teaches you how to use them most effectively.
Using tools that do much of the work for you lets you produce generic things faster.
Generic doesn't cut it in this world.

I feel like this is a similar problem. AI and Unreal encourage you to create without understanding. "Let someone else solve the problems for me." kinda thing.
Exactly. Your ability to produce lots of slop is not a marker of quality or if you're creating the right things.
I also have failed to see literally any slop coding produce anything that advances the state of the art or does something new.
Security, good UX, and thinking expansively about projects is often more valuable. But with AI coding, you're so busy doing *stuff* that you're not stopping to ask if it's the *right* stuff.
This is why it's slop. It's really good at generating lots of stuff without regard for its quality.
I'm starting to realize something about AI coding after seeing someone else posting about it here.
The problem with vibe coding is that it lets you do a LOT of programming very quickly.
But a lot of the time, doing lots of programming very quickly isn't what you need to do.
I asked my boss this same question after he was saying similar things and he told me “we have bots reviewing things for security”
I’m seeing the attitude the OP is referring to everywhere in coding these days.
I think it’s the result of people being impressed by what these text generators can do coupled with a lack of understanding of their drawbacks.
They’re picking it up too fast imo.

You don't need to use AI to make coding go faster as a solo developer. We've been doing this thing the whole time called using an IDE, Stack Exchange, copying code snippets and using search engines.
There's no excuses for supporting destructive fascist tools.
