LIGO Detected Gravitational Waves from Black Holes
On September 14, 2015 at 5:51 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (09:51 UTC), the twin Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors, located in Livingston, Louisiana, and Hanford, Wash...
The @ligo.org and @egovirgo.bsky.social collaborations officially announced the first direct detection of gravitational waves #OTD in 2016.
Hard to believe we are ten (ten!) years into the gravitational wave era of astronomy and astrophysics. A remarkable tool for understanding our Universe. π§ͺ π βοΈ

Most of these damages come from non-market values: nutrition, coastal protection, and the existence value of marine ecosystems β not just market losses.

1. In a GREAT paper (why isn't it published??), Anthoff, Dennig & @johannesemm.bsky.social show that most IAMs have a hidden goal of a uniform price and define Negishi weights to arrive at that goal. Yet, carbon price should grow at the discount rate (at least under a carbon budget constraint)...

Agreed. Socioeconomically optimal values have been found at roughly 83%. And even then, political and social implications need to be anticipated and addressed.
NB: Even the 55% target has not yet been digested. We found people believe the EU will only manage 43% by 2030. More Credibility is needed.

Excited to announce a new @pnas.org publication on the Social Cost of Carbon. We integrate evidence from the literature and expert survey to provide an SCC distribution inclusive of both parametric and structural uncertainties. Our mean 2020 value is $283 per ton CO2
