Policy impact from Pyramids of Life 🌊

Our ecosystem-modelling work is in the Evidence Statement for the Celtic Sea & Western Channel pelagic FMP. Multispecies modelling in mizer explored food-web roles and β€œwhat-if” biomass change scenarios.

It was exciting to see my calibrated model put to use!

Animal tracking with particle algorithms informs protected area design Particle algorithms strengthen the value of acoustic telemetry for conservation.

Shouting out Ed Lavender et al.’s new paper in Science Advances πŸ‘‡

Using animal tracking with particle algorithms to get much sharper maps of space use and residency for Critically Endangered flapper skate, and to evaluate MPA design.

A first for Cupar Sub Aqua Club in Loch Sunart - and only my second after several hundred UK dives - a spiny lobster/crawfish. Even familiar dives can throw up unusual surprises!

New paper finally out! We tested whether a 660β€―nm laser scanner, designed to automate crustacean data collection, affects prawn eyes πŸ‘οΈπŸ¦

πŸ“‰ Single scans: no detectable issues
πŸ“ˆ Repeated scans: subtle tissue changes emerge

Our paper, "Assessing the effect of 660nm laser imaging on crustacean eyes," is accepted in PLOS ONE! πŸ¦πŸ”¬

We explore how Class 3R lasers affect white-legged prawn eyes, paving the way for ethical, tech-driven, size-based stock assessment. 🌊

At Pyramids of Life, we're working on a framework for creating size-spectrum Mizer models from diverse empirical data sources. By streamlining parameterisation and calibration, we're enabling more robust marine ecosystem insights. A paper and package are in progress - stay tuned! πŸŸπŸ“Š #MarineScience

Hello, BlueSky! After contemplation, I’ve decided to join this platform and start fresh. I’m here to rebuild my network and find meaningful interactions in a more pleasant online space. Looking forward to connecting over science, the marine environment, and big ol' hills!
