For #FossilFriday a panoply of the basal #ankylosaurid Liaoningosaurus, known by literally dozens of juvenile specimens. The largest specimens are around 50 cm #thyreophora #ornithischia
Maybe a bit late for web timing, but ehy, NEW PAPER ON #fossilfriday!!!
I am proud to present you Haolong dongi gen. nov. sp. nov., a new hadrosauroid from the Early Cretaceous of China!
The specimen, almost complete, is a juvenile iguanodontian from the Yixian Formation of the Barremian (125 Mya).
Life reconstruction of Haolong in dark forest environment, by Fabio Manucci.
Montage showing scales and spikes of Haolong, with anatomical position marked on life reconstruction of whole animal. From Huang et al. 'Cellular-level preservation of cutaneous spikes in an Early Cretaceous'. iguanodontian dinosaur
Really taken with Haolong dongi, out today from Jiandong Huang, Pascal Godefroit and team. Just submitted news article on it. An iguanodontian with abundant hollow spikes across the neck and body, projecting from among conventional basement scales, and with rows of plate-like scales along the tail.
Haolong dongi, amazing new spiny (yes, really) iguanodontian from early cretaceous china #sciart
Since it's #haolong day and #fossilfriday here's some #iguanodontian specimens from Liaoning, spanning from 40 cm to over 8 m, many preserved with soft tissue.

New paper alert! (My first!)
This is a benchmark paper on all NPS fossils within the State of Utah through 2024. Loads of illustrations by me and pic by coauthors and collaborators. Open access, free to download! Thanks to all who made this possible!

Skull roof elements of Tuojiangosaurus. The supraorbital (n.6)show and interesting pattern of conspicuous tubercles. While stegosaurs have often ornamentations in the shape of grooves and pits the supraorbital of T. vaguely recall the caputegulae of ankylosaurs #thyreophora

A little #FossilFriday mystery from the Hell Creek for you other experts. I found this in a bunch of pieces trailing down the outcrop. What is it? Smooth on the underside, horns. Sutures?
Definitely not Pachycephalosaurus, can't place it on a ceratopsian either. 🦕🧪
The tips of the left squamosal bones from 2 horned dinosaurs on a red cloth, curatorial thumbs up for scale
I'm putting the new weird horned dinosaur that I found in Montana away, but wanted to compare it with the same bones from Princess Lumpybumps.
I am surprised at how different they are, especially the fused frill lumps (episquamodals) in overall size and proportions. Can't wait to dig more ! 🧪
Results from the #paleostream!

Whooooaaaa, this is extremely neat!
And spectropolarimetry (which is the best, and what we used in my first paper too!) is at its core 💙
In a nutshell: astronomers used the polarization of light to study the shape of a supernova explosion before it interacted with surrounding material.
