It’s very easy to imagine doing something like that in Skin Deep.

It’s such an immersive sim movie! All improvised weapons and vent nonsense.

The group of fans creating this has decided not to promote on Twitter, so please help me help them extend their reach so they get lots of folks signing up to contribute. πŸ’œ

The change of character is refreshing and I loved the interplay between the two β€˜yous’. In a way it makes explicit that gradually accumulating world knowledge you drag along with you in the game, and how it can alter your perception of self-contained stories like this one. Plus: Chekhov’s crocodile!

Some of the best Fallen London stories trap you in a schedule and encourage you to push at its boundaries. So a school timetable works really nicely here, and @skelicopter.bsky.social has such a wonderful way of humanising both horror and joy. β€œYour smile is so broad you can feel your cheeks cramp.”

Meet the man who stuffed as much Deus Ex into Fallout 3 as was "humanly possible" There is a surprising amount of immersive sim Deus Ex's DNA in Fallout 3. Though, for a good reason, you may not have noticed it before.

Very cool to finally get to ask this question of Emil Pagliarulo, designer of Thief II’s best level and Oblivion’s Dark Brotherhood: How much immersive sim went into the making of Fallout 3? www.rockpapershotgun.com/meet-the-man...

Yeah, particularly seeing that he landed on stuff that was *good* but wasn’t *right* for the overall structure of the game. Can only imagine how much perspective it takes to step back and recognise that in a personal dev project.

Speaking of perfectionism, every time in the early builds recap that Barone says β€œas you can see, this aspect was trash”, I’m thinking: β€œNo it’s not! It’s more impressive than anything I’ve ever made!”

That’s a really interesting point! Third-person also makes emotes feel like a natural extension of your toolset.

The strange thing to get our heads around is that Arc is the exception to the standard rules of its genre. At least for now.

Help raise Β£30000 to Coming Together to Support Our Family in a Time of Crisis or Supporting Our Family Through Loss, ICU Care, and Recovery – JustGiving Crowdfunding IΚΌm raising money to Coming Together to Support Our Family in a Time of Crisis or Supporting Our Family Through Loss, ICU Care, and Recovery. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

I just want to give a bump to the fundraiser for Patrick Dane's family as they deal with the long aftermath of the horrific car accident that took him away from us all. They need it for the enormous costs incurred. Time off work. Fights. Hotels. Etc.

Thanks for every time you've backed me, Tom, and for backing talented friends and peers who have benefited hugely from your support. What a brilliant thing to have done for our industry. I hope you can have a bit of time off and discover another job that draws on your experience and brings you joy.

I think any games media organisation is lucky to have you and lesser without you, honestly. Not only a great critic but someone with a deep mechanical understanding of how to get things read. I know your colleagues at RPG Site will continue to appreciate that now and in the future.

Well then. After 9 years my role of Editorial Director at Eurogamer/IGNE has been made redundant. If you’re reading this and feel I have a lot of valuable experience (I do), I’m keen to explore any opportunities (full time, consulting, other) in the games industry. I am great.

This is the silliest and most Joannes joke I’ve seen about the whole thing. And yes, I laughed.

I’ll allow myself one night to be upset about the desecration of venerable games media outlets by AI ghouls. Tomorrow I’ll get back to asking real interviewees insightful questions and polishing my copy til it’s blinding. Let the vultures look pathetic by comparison.

Statement released upon my far-future death: β€œJeremy died surrounded by loved ones, having maxed out all his relationships. It is of some comfort to know that he unlocked all of our special attacks and bonus cutscenes in his final weeks. As he passed a completionist smile flickered across his face.”

Easy to say 'find a new business model for the industry' from my corner, but I've embraced that hope. Ran my own little Patreon for a couple of years there. And over time I contribute to more outlets directly funded by readers. It's not simple but it's not hypothetical either. It's tangible change.
