Oh! And I'm rereading the Nevermoor books by Jessica Townsend. My favorite middle grade fantasy. Super whimsy and the main character is great.
I've gone back to reading Robin Hobbs books. The Rain Wild chronicles is where I started and fell in love. The Live ship traders are also amazing. I don't like the main character of the other books so I ignore them π«₯

'truly nonbinary wouldn't use gendered language'... so not only is she policing the terms 'lesbian' and 'gay' she's also telling nonbinary people they MUST reject all gendered language. What a joke π€£
She'd be so mad to know I'm married to a trans woman and call myself a nonbinary lesbian ππ
Friends to lovers AND fake dating. Especially if the fake dating people fall for other people and it's all just a big mess
This is so exciting! This books needs to be in more peoples hands. I imported a copy as soon as I finished the arc.

Nothing has really stood out to me so far. There's the obvious Sunrise on the Reaping but it didn't wow me because I was expecting it to be good
Frosthaven ππ I haven't finished Gloomhaven yet. can't wait to dig into it more though. I think I've retired at least 4 characters by now
Ohhhh thank you, I love Laid Back Camp
And the fact that funding her directly funded the supreme court decision in the UK recently.
You could say it didn't age well considering how much bullying and fatphobia are in the books. Also lack of diversity. The subtle racism that people like the gloss over.
A good alternative is The Nevermoor books by Jessica Townsend.
I can't help but think of this quote everytime someone defends those books.
'-stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited.β

About 8 years ago one of my favourite podcasts reread HP through a critical lens. It taught me so much about media and how to engage with it EVEN WHEN you enjoy the thing your criticising.
He won't. He relies too much in the series to cut ties or to call her out.

This isn't gay porn and you know it. It's teaching safer sex. This book series also teaches about consent, are you angry children are learning how to tell you 'no' too?

3.5 stars rounded up for goodreads/netgalley.
Thanks to the publisher for an epub of this book prior to release.
Unfortunately, the plot develops too slowly. While we gradually meet more and more lovable characters, the book ends just as we've grown to know them.
This lighthearted story follows a spaceship determined to keep its humans alive, despite their tendency to meet supernatural deaths.

Came for a funny campy scifi, stayed for the characters.

I hate it too. You can't even legally sell them as 'ANZAC cookies'
this has just reminded me to buy more desiccated coconut so I can make my own
Negative: I was thoroughly put off by the fact that men's genitals are referred to as "wicks." When it first came up, I gagged. I justβwas that really necessary?
Bring on book 3!
I loved the first book in this series and A Drop of Corruption didn't disappoint.
Positive: Malo was a wonderful addition to the story. From the very first chapter, I was charmed by her brute honesty. I like Din as a main character, but I'd honestly prefer Malo. Maybe a spin-off?
