MacOS is just… significantly less crap to use than windows at this point, and I wouldn’t bet that MYOB et al wants to work on Linux

A thousand dollar MacBook is pretty great value for this use case

Like my mum manages a tiny bookstore. She had to upgrade the work laptop because Win11. Besides emails and browser-based order management, MYOB is the only thing it’s used for.

I don’t love how closed-source a lot of the ecosystem is - Apple’s low latency network stack that powers stuff like airdrop and sidecar are actually really cool! And not really getting to play with it is lame.

The App Store is also pretty lame - especially for games?

There’s plenty of stuff that I don’t love about Apple kit to be clear too. The default MacOS experience is a little lame. I still need to set up a proper window manager. I’ve bought a half dozen little tools to make minor QOL improvements to screenshots and shit.

All my old iPad apps were on the new one, and even my discord session was still logged in?

Get fucked if you wanna use EntraID as an IDP though, you must use edge to sign in :)

Sometimes Apple products do weird shit too. The MDM on the work laptops disables iCloud, so while a lot of stuff still works fine with my personal account - random shit won’t, like my messages wont tell me who they’re from on the MacBook. Works fine on my unrestricted iPad tho.

I suspect they’re not miles better on Windows either - I think that the rest of windows is just noticibly bad enough that one more shit product feels at home
