Thinking about what Edward Abbey would have done if the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Forest Service and its employees had been treated like this while he was a seasonal ranger.
Seldom Seen and the Monkey Wrench Gang probably would have taken action.

When Glen Canyon was finally destroyed, when I was created by the closing of the Glen Canyon Dam’s gates in 1963, the water delivered to Mexico became scarcer and more saline. Mexico complained, and the USofA said that they had never promised that the water would be 𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦.

How the New Administration’s Actions Will Affect National Parks
Will there be a shortage of national park rangers for the 2025 visitation season? NPCA shares how the new administration’s actions will affect national parks.
“Visitors from around the world come to our national parks expecting a once-in-a-lifetime experience but instead could be met with overflowing trash, uncleaned bathrooms and fewer rangers to provide guidance. These are not the memories we want people to take away from their experience at our parks.”

The Antiquities Act, signed into law by Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, is under threat from the incoming administration, as well as the very real potential for downsizing, removing, and selling off protected public lands through spurious reviews, which they did first time around.

Lake Powell is under 40% full.
There is just one year to go before the new water management scheme for the Colorado River is decided.
Things do not look promising.

Hey, @georgetakei.bsky.social, is it only mountains that you follow, or would a humble little manmade puddle in the desert catch your eye?

The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Lake Powell are in an area of the Southwest that is definitely as risk of being turned into wasteland under the incoming administration.

‘Glen Canyon Dam is an insult to God’s Creation, and if there is a God he will destroy it. And if there isn’t we will take care of it, one way or another, and if we don’t then Mother Nature most certainly will.’—Edward Abbey, Remarks, Glen Canyon Dam, Spring Equinox 1981

Life After Dead Pool: Lake Powell’s Last Days And The Rebirth Of The Colorado River
Dead pool on the Colorado River is defined as the level of Lake Powell behind Glen Canyon Dam when the lowest tunnels on the dam allowing water to be released into the Grand Canyon would be above the ...
“The American Southwest is in the grip of a prolonged drought . . . that has lowered the level of Lake Powell to a level close to dead pool, an unimaginable situation to those who originally conceived and constructed the dam in a relatively moist Colorado River watershed period.”
