Hugo awards nominations are approaching, and Iβm just going to say, if I find out that Dispelling Fantasies is nominated in the best related category, I promise to post a video of my seriously unhinged reaction! Please consider Dispelling Fantasies if youβre able to nominate!

My grandmother immigrated to the mainland from Puerto Rico and refused to speak English. I never understood why until I grew up. It is her right as an American citizen to speak the language of her America, and I was proud to see that language celebrated yesterday.
Bad Bunny standing with background dancers, holding all of the flags of the Americas while a billboard behind him says the only thing more powerful than he is love.
The U.S . has had multiple spoken languages since its founding: Indigenous languages, Spanish, and African in addition to English. This country has many towns with Indigenous and Spanish names and yet acts like English is the only language that matters .
Dispelling Fantasies made @locusmag.bsky.socialβs recommended reading list!!! So thrilled to have my work recognized alongside so many other amazing fiction and nonfiction recs! locusmag.com/2026/02/2025...

I've been a bit tied up with everything going on here in the U.S. coupled with severe weather. But I am committing to helping undo the injustices happening, so I am donating to this great NYC nonprofit and asking you to consider making a donation as well: secure.givelively.org/donate/mami-...
So happy for you! This was a great piece (and I'm not just saying that because my book is in it). Hope you get lots of new readers and the win!
Both nominations well deserved! Iβve been telling my writer friends that the first chapter of The River Has Roots should be taught in writing courses as an example of how beautiful the written word can be. Congratulations!
I had the same experience today! Congratulations! Well deserved.
Ahhh, forgot to tag and thank @ohiostatepress.bsky.social! Their New Suns series is amazing to work with!
Thank you!
Congratulations! Uncertain Sons is an amazing collection of stories!
Thank you! See you at ICFA!

Dispelling Fantasies made the BSFA longlist!!! I'm honored. Academics don't publish books to make lots of money, so being recognized by my fellow SFF lovers and having people tell me the book has been useful to them is the thing that keeps me going in my research!
Congratulations! π
Some really great authors to vote for!
Today's post honors a book I've been gushing about all year, Ibi Zuboi's (S)Kin. The minute I read this book, I knew I was teaching it. My students loved the verse structure and deeply connected to the characters and themes. And love the Haitian representation. Everyone, read this book!
Itβs MLK day. Letβs honor the legacy of the day by acknowledging that the post-race future people envisioned never existed. Take action against systemic racism and work toward a post-AI world instead.
