I think conflicting motivations would ramp up the tension at the climax if the character is faced with an ultimatum:
- Both decisions would satisfy the respective motivations.
- Both decisions would come with some kind of repercussion.

To be fair, I do love adding ✨ drama ✨ to my stories! Ooh! Maybe if it were a romance and they cure the curse, but the vampire suffers deteriorates over a year or two. They would maintain their appearance but get noticeably weaker.

That's interesting! I never viewed it as anything but a curse. Something like that being irreversible definitely adds a bittersweet tang to the ordeal. This is why vampires are awesome!
