The South really doesn’t need to be a refuge for media (or other) washouts. I think they think southerners won’t notice the bad work and actions of the transplants’ pasts, but we do. Meantime, they like to tell how it’s done. 🫢

I do think it’s interesting that the NYT is trying to set up shop in the South where maybe, just maybe the scrutiny and criticism won’t be so deafening.

Now that Noem is finally fired, i’m so happy to not see her fake face on a video all over the Jackson airport again.

It’s such a physical exercise that it’s hard to explain. I tried teaching Writing Workshops via Zoom, but I really don’t like it. I do aerobic teaching as I call it jump, jumping around and moving and all that.

I have a whole passive exercise that I do in my workshops involving death-penalty reporting. It’s very popular and helps break journos and students of this nasty habit.

I know. In a way, I’m amazed that journalism schools allow this and even teach the passive voice, but I also know why. It’s a way to an appease and please power. But damn, it’s lazy and ugly. I call it a ladybug flipped over with its little legs in the air.

Thinking a bit today about how people, including some funders, can be condescending about women’s innovations even when we execute daily—sometimes for decades—while men copy us to cheers.

A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.

Using the passive voice totally disguises media bias, not to mention perpetrators. And it’s terrible, awful, lazy writing, period.
