Yeah, definitely not saying WotC isn't scummy and bad stewards of the "household name" ttrpg. To bring back OP's point, blaming the *players* of D&D for not branching out is silly. And even with WotC meddling, there will always be those who break away from D&D to other systems.
Do I wish WOTC was better at handling D&D? Absolutely. Are other systems better at handling different things? Yes. Is it frustrating that some players stick with 5e even when better options for them are available? Sure.
Doesn't change that D&D is the entry point for most players into TTRPG spaces.
Not sure I follow the logic here. Fans of D&D might not explore other systems, absolutely, but would they have necessarily tried other systems if they didn't get into D&D first? Maybe, but TTRPGs are incredibly niche as is, with only D&D really breaking through to the mainstream at all.
Hot take maybe but D&D doing well helps every ttrpg system since so many players first get into the hobby through D&D. Dedicated players will probably find a new system that suits their needs better eventually, but I'm guessing players jumping into Pathfinder or Cyberpunk or whatever first is rare.
