huge shout out to @stephanie-shiers.bsky.social for sticking with this project all these years. We posted this work on biorxiv over 2 years ago (almost unbelievable that time has gone that fast).
After years of additional work, and many, many revisions this paper www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... has finally been accepted for publication in Journal of Comparative Neurology. The message remains the same, but lots of new data added. Excited for everyone to see it when the paper goes online soon.

An ICE agent shot and killed Ruben Ray Martinez, a US citizen and San Antonio resident, in March 2025. Then ICE and the Texas Department of Public Safety covered it up. He was 23 years old. I am calling for a full investigation into this shooting, including why there was an 8-month cover up.
Also the onion peel analogy is great and I love the figures on that analysis in particular extended figure 8.
There are many things that are excellent about this paper but my favorite is that every hDRG neuron seems to have its own capillary. We have had this impression but this paper really nails it in my view.
