There's definitely enough there already that I'm planning to move away from Figma (who just raised prices) when my billing cycle ends. You can't beat free (for single professionals anyways) / self-host-able!
Penpot is looking pretty good! While there are a couple of small things missing that I'm used to in Figma (*cough* component variants), I have confidence they're building in the right direction.
