I am old enough to remember the sinking feeling I got when Cheney insisted "we will be greeted as liberators" in Iraq. I felt it again tonight when I read Trump obliviously tweet "now is the time for peace." It will age poorly, but probably live forever.

So the President of the United States is deploying the marines against his fellow American citizens. Let that sink in. We creep ever closer to midnight... or maybe we're galloping toward it.

There's some debate over Ballerina, which can be uneven, shameless franchise extension... but it also has wall-to-wall Stahelski action in the back half where Ana de Armas enters a flamethrower duel and smashes plates on her enemies heads like a deadly Three Stooges. I was smiling.

A Movie from ‘Foreign Lands’ Donald Trump Should Love
Donald Trump has signaled he considers movies made in “foreign lands” a threat to national security. But here’s one from an ally that would be right up his alley…
Donald Trump sees movies from "foreign lands" as a national threat so grievous that he wants to use tariffs to derail the film industry for our protection. Still, I think there's one UK-based movie he'd love about a leader who always got his way, no matter the cost. www.denofgeek.com/movies/movie...

But when I wrote it, it was about fans letting themselves be manipulated by bad faith actors. Little did I know Disney would reward the racists by throwing their star under the bus & blame her for their making a bad movie. So again: Rachel Zegler is wonderfully talented and the best thing in it.

Saw the 1st ep of The Studio. It's as great as the raves claim, and not just because of the cameos. There's also something deeply truthful about depicting modern studio heads as not big swaggering Les Grossman or Ari Gold, but a petrified Seth Rogen desperate to make IP "and art"

So, uh, it ended. We stopped paying attention. Just the way and got to talking. Just the way Netflix's god of algorithms intended.

Y'know, this is making me remember folks were way too mean about Kyle Mooney's Y2K. Yeah it was a shaggy mess, but it was fun and actually had something to say about its era, even if what it said was "what if Limp Bizkit was... good, actually?"

Ke Huy Quan's back and we opened a second round. So that's gotta buy this movie a couple more set pieces, at least.

67 minutes in and I'm starting to regret so many life choices that have led to this viewing. What's the over/under getting another 60 minutes in (I'm at the bit where Pratt and Brown are trying to outrun the Island of Misfit toys, and there was a shameless Marky Mark needle drop)

...this is strangely making me nostalgic for the '90s. No not Mr. Peanut or dancing fish, but those really bad, hollow studio tentpoles that aped the beats of Spielberg but missed the target by country miles. Godzilla, Waterworld, Wild Wild West. This even has a mechanical spider

I doubt it matters to him or his bank account, but it's honestly a shame for Chris Pratt the Western genre died. That mustache and six-shooter? The man was born to be in a shootout at the OK Corral and in scenes where he didn't have to do any Whedon-lite MCU banter-atter.

So if in this alternate reality we went to war with robots in 1990, does this mean the grunge movement in Seattle never went mainstream? Were we too busy fighting AI for Nirvana's Nevermind to be a thing? And if it wasn't, why is Millie in flannel? Oh look, I've gone cross-eyed.

Jason Alexander has a Tony. He starred in the greatest sitcom of all time. I thought it right we should remember that, even after he was forced to say, "Hey robot, you speak a-the-human?!"

Not even 7 minutes in, and we're already aping Ready Player One, famously Steven Spielberg's most popular and celebrated movie. But y'know, without the grace or visual wizardry of the Beard's camera movements. You weren't kidding @joewriteswords.bsky.social!
