Yes, I am. So then you understand there is no magic pills for Tourette’s? That a lot of times, the meds don’t work for people. Or the side effects are too much for them.
All I’m saying is that responding with “there’s meds for that” is glib. It’s way more complicated than that.
Unfortunately, I highly doubt this is going to taint their careers in any way, shape or form. I would love to see that happen but I won’t hold my breath :( it IS hockey, after all.
Yeah, but we aren’t talking about all the medications in the world. Are you well educated on medications for Tourette’s, specifically? Do you have even a basic understanding of them?
Both scenarios could be true. One scenario has empathy and benefit of doubt for all parties.

If you’re going to default to “he doesn’t care about how his disability offends black people” why not, instead, default to “he likely did everything in his power to avoid offending people and was very stressed about the situation and his disability overcame his efforts”?
I am sure there are assholes with Tourette’s that don’t give a fuck who they offend, for whatever reasons or circumstances. I highly doubt this man is one of those assholes. From what I know, the majority of people with Tourette’s are hyper aware of how their disability affects those around them.
I don’t have Tourette’s syndrome but I do have close family members who do. I don’t think they would be at risk of doing something like this. But even if they were, I still wouldn’t ask them to hide from the world because I know they would do everything in their power to avoid this situation.

I don’t see anyone in this thread who is advocating for folks with Tourette’s being dismissive or reducing it to simple, common aspects of the disability. I guess some people might be lying. I don’t see what that would accomplish.
Personally I don’t think anyone who is empathetic to the man with Tourette’s is not also empathetic to the two incredible black actors, as well. To have empathy for a disabled person & advocate for their right to exist around others, the empathy has to extend to those who might be offended by them.
Coprolalia is also proven to increase in severity when folks with Tourette’s spend time together. Even more so as the numbers of individuals increase. conferences/gatherings where lots of folks with Tourette’s are in attendance, for example, are said to be intense & severity of symptoms increase.
Is it always effective? Are the side effects negligible? Can you answer these two questions confidently enough in your understanding to respond so glibly?
I really think you should try to learn more about Tourette’s syndrome before you speak anymore on this topic, friend.
