A dad says to a young human (8?): "Now there're a couple of problems here with what you're doing with that stick. Want to tell me what they are?"
Young human thinks, then says: "Poking?"
Dad: "Yes! Poking. And poking's not very nice is it?" (1)

How does that work then? Nuts!
Dems the sport pages, already a separate post for front page headlines. Thanks for putting them all up.
This is a long shot but here goes:
If you live in Ireland and happen to know if you were fathered by Ian Lindsay of Coatbridge, Scotland, get in touch.
Cheers

Biddy Early They said she kept a blue bottle. The colour of deep water, of bruises. Men with books came searching for the thing they feared inside it. But the hills had already told her their secrets. Bog-myrtle. Foxglove. The slow grammar of rain. Women crossed the dark fields to her door with quiet emergencies. Milk gone bitter. Blood that would not come. The future pressing like weather. The priests called it witchcraft. The law called it fraud. But the land had always trusted her hands. perdans ined nothing. Only the dangerous rumour that a woman might know what the earth knows.
In Irish tradition, a bean feasa (βwise woman β) was a healer and seer who worked with herbs, lore, and the wisdom of the land. Biddy Early was one of the most famous. Denounced by some clergy as a witch, she was brought to court but never convicted. #vss365 #SpeirGorm #SpΓ©irGhorm
Two scientists walk through a cluttered old-fashioned science laboratory. The female scientist says βAnalogue instruments! Paper records! Chalk boards! I thought you'd agreed to modernise the laboratory?β The male scientist replies βThat's what i'm so excited about: we have moved to cloud-based storage for our data!β They step out onto a balcony. She says: βPlease tell me you haven't built a library zeppelinβ This is exactly what he has done. It floats across the sky and he adds βIt's got a fax machine!β
My cartoon for this weekβs @newscientist.com
Ranunculus sweater in apricot with the first arm knitted down an inch or so.
Popped the body of my Ranunculus sweater onto a holding line and Iβm knitting up the sleeves to their correct length.
That way I should have plenty of yarn to make the length of the body as long as I need without playing yarn chicken!
Few more rows before jumping into my day xx

Looking for two right now
It's important to me so any help would be appreciated
π§΅Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A euphoric looking white dog (staffy?) with floppy black ears is sitting in the middle of a flowing river.
Water flowing around his chest and back.
Eyes half closed in happiness.
A stick in his mouth.
Pure doggy bliss. (1)
Three panels showing a bench on a small hill in London on a grey drizzly day. A man in a fedora carrying a suitcase arrives, then he is joined by a woman carrying an umbrella and a man in dark glasses reading a newspaper. They all look shifty and hurriedly converse: "Good." "Very." "Agreed." Then they all walk off down the hill. Caption: Every month, the Espionage Book Club discuss a classic work of spy fiction at a clandestine meeting. To minimise the risk of exposure, infiltration or surveillance by hostile agents, conversation is restricted to the essentials.

π§΅Spotted On Market Day in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A woman (70s?) says to a friend: "Do you ever feel like chucking everything in and running away to join the circus?"
Her friend laughs: "Sometimes. But then I remember how much I like sleeping in my own bed. I REALLY love my bed." (1)
I can't go but break a leg to all.
Sixty years on, a Star Trek writer is still creating strange new worlds. Diane Duaneβs early days writing fan fiction have led to a remarkable career as a novelist, comic writer and screen writer.
I'm guessing this wasn't the plan.
Reprofiled. I love that, taken as word of the day.
π§΅Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A man (30s?) handing out flyers for an upcoming ceilidh* is chatting to a woman (20s?).
He says: "If ya like laughing and having a good time, why not come along?!"
She smiles and says: "I might! I hear laughter is good for the heart." (1)
Hey lovely people,
I'm thinking of holding some online workshops about finding tiny moments of joy in day-to-day life during chaotic times and I'm wondering if that's something you'd be interested in?
Let me know if that'd be your cup of teaπ
π§΅Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A cheerful robust woman (50s?) spots a friend across a supermarket carpark and bellows: "Come here and give us a hug ya big loner! It's been ages!"
Her friend laughs and hurries forward to meet her in a huge happy hug. (1)
Wonderful. It's about time. I would say small / medium dogs could be carried or walk on rather than being put in a carrier which can be unwieldy or difficult to put on a bus or at your feet.
