Eric Fury is a good wrestler name, though

In the end, yes, wresting back control and flexing legislative muscle (difficult with a minority in both houses) has to be the larger goal. Signaling to their constituents that they won't sit idly by while he spews his Nation-damaging nonsense isn't mutually exclusive with that larger goal, though

The role Trump wants them to play (angry shouters) is also the one their constituents want them to play, for different reasons. Shift your focus from the former to the latter and what seems like playing into his hands instead becomes a proclamation that his lies and rhetoric won't go unchallenged

If the goal is to annoy Trump, sure. Give him silence. But that's a puerile goal. If instead the goal is to signal to your constituents that you're not going to let his lies and rhetoric pass without vociferous comment, you give him hell. Whether he relishes the lashing is beside the point.

"Back to work" is such a duplicitous way to frame this. Not "back to the office". "Back to work". The intentional use of that phrase to anchor the idea that people are being lazy and dishonest if they want to work remotely is so smarmy in its deliberateness.

Nope, certainly not. I just thought it was interesting that he seems to be downplaying as much as possible whatever it is they were doing down there, as though admitting to lacking of power somehow excuses the act of trying.

He's careful to reiterate that he and his colleagues went to the States as regular joes with no real power to negotiate, or to get anything done, or to represent anyone or anything while down there. Sounds like they're feeling the "traitor" heat and are recognizing they might be in some trouble.

"The influencers milling about his rallies frequently shared outlandish conspiracy theories, and many were one step removed from the 2024 Tenet scandal, in which Russian state media paid Canadian and US influencers $10 million to spread Russian propaganda."

There is certainly no requirement for a columnist to agree with every piece published in pages of the magazine to which they regularly contribute, but I will be interested to see what @radiofreetom.bsky.social thinks of this (even if that's just to say "Nah")

It's pretty clearly a veiled call for an end to the European Union. The language around European countries being more independent is not an accident.

What the hell is "Defence Analysis and Research Corporation"?

Their "about us" sounds like it was written by undergrad wanna-be tech-bros and says nothing at all: defenseanalyses.org/about/

Who is this author, John Waterman, and why should we value his opinion or help spread his work on BlueSky?

Well this turned out to be pretty alarming.

Ugh, but then you're paralyzed by choices of paint colours. "What mood do I want to set?", "What does this colour say about me?"

I think @radiofreetom.bsky.social was simply behind the eight ball. Those folks he kept asking to temper their use of the word simply recognized the trajectory far earlier than he did, and have continued to be proven correct over and over again.

You might note, if you care to take off your "I'm a YouTuber and make money with hot takes" hat and actually read what I wrote, that I said I wasn't saying it was a good idea or that I'd like it to happen either. I'm not your enemy, guy.

Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden...

Many countries that are considered progressive and happy places to live have mandatory military service.

I'm not saying it's a great idea or that I'd like it to happen, but it's hardly "lunacy". Postmedia has published far worse ideas.

And those two things (tax cuts + tariffs) are, without seeing the actual numbers, a wash if one is meant to replace the other. So they're not really addressing the deficit at all that way.
