My latest with thoughts on the economic consequences of Epic Fury, whatβs at stake in Anthropic vs Pete Hegseth, are the AI doomsters right, and South Koreaβs astonishing stock market
Looks like Iran has decided on three types of targets: US military bases in the region (Bahrain & others), oil infrastructure (eastern Saudi Arabia) and, perhaps most escalatory of all, densely populated urban areas to maximise economic and political impact (Dubai).
Still up on the official White House website:

The real threat to democracy doesn't come from 'family voting'. It comes from the losing side refusing go accept they've lost
Reads like the electorate have let the Conservative Party down very badly.
Why would a tax deduction for student loans be any more complicated than a bike to work scheme? Certified not a complete solution, but on a point of principle pretty persuasive
Excellent and surely unarguable letter in @thetimes.com on the case for making student loan debt tax deductible. One only has to think about this for one minute to wonder why on earth this doesnβt happen alreadyβ¦
The right way to deal with Trumpβs grotesque wolf warriors
More Europeans should speak out like this on Trumpβs pro-Russia policy. Time to take the kid gloves off with this fake ally
So, just thought I would try this AI thing, and I am interacting with @google gemini. I asked it to do something banal, like make an image of Donald Trump surfing. It refused. I had no idea how scared these companies really are.
What next after Trump's SCOTUS tariff defeat, why Macron is right on eurobonds, could Blue Owl be a canary in the market coalmine, is Japan's PM Margaret Thatcher or Liz Truss, and how close is Russia to collapse. My latest!

I find it impossible to imagine a diplomat or official behaving in such a way. It is so grossly offensive to colleagues as well as guests/hosts that it would surely be career-ending - but in any case no one so unprofessional would ever reach a level to be able to cause such embarrassment
Good to see that my fatherβs protests at Andrewβs disgraceful behaviour have surfaced. I remember how outraged he was at the time and he has frequently mentioned it since. Extraordinary that this oaf was allowed to remain in a high profile government post for so long

Winds of bloody change indeed π€
Iβll concede this to the Trump administration. You can no longer get Lapsang Souchong at Waitrose. Thatβs civilisational erasure right there π€―

Here we go - now confirmed. Trump knows that he can always count on the plastic patriots of the British right to put their partisan agenda ahead of the national interest. For the second time this year, they work with Trump to undermine a British PM in the midst of an international crisis
The wording here is truly bizarre. To the point of being borderline nonsensical. Did no one read it back before sending it?
It is notable that Andrew has been arrested for "misconduct in public office", which is precisely what the US Supreme Court decided no American president can ever be charged with.
Under the current Treaty, it very much is in the UKβs power to tell America what it can or cannot do at Diego Garcia. Of course, Trump, who does not respect international law, could do it anyway, but that would be an extraordinarily hostile act towards an ally
Troubling
Hard to avoid suspicion that Trumpβs latest Chagos U-turn is an attempt to bully Starmer into allowing Diego Garcia to be used for an illegal reckless war against Iran, dragging Britain into it - and as usual the plastic patriots on the British right play straight into his hands
Why Macron is right on eurobonds - my latest for @euractiv.com on how common borrowing for common goods such as defence and tech will determine whether Europe is at the table or on the menu in the new world order

Fact Check:
Nigel Farage claims the FT ignored the Mandelson-Epstein scandal
it was on the front page for SIX days
(long before he appears to have even noticed it)
Reformβs new βhead of policyβ has said Russiaβs invasion of Ukraine is a βregional Slavic conflictβ.
He added: βIt is a conflict happening in the world that I donβt care very much about.β
