I agree, but that isn’t likely to happen until the next admin. Rather than fight against that reality, I’m choosing to acknowledge it and find a path through it so that accountability is possible, eventually

In the history of this country you’ll find that the minority party never gets a meaningful concession out of a shutdown. Negotiating is an art and a science and to achieve anything you have to be realistic. Senate D’s are doing that. if they get these reforms, it is a massive win.

Nothing can meaningfully change unless and until the D’s win the midterms. Unfortunately for us right now, these are the consequences of the previous election. Can’t change the past so might as well deal the hand we’ve been dealt. And it’s a really shitty hand.

So let’s game this out a bit… if ICE is required to not wear masks, ID themselves, and record via body cams, that’s “no real action”? That creates documentary evidence that can be used to prosecute these bastards when this regime falls. And it will fall.

I would rather see a realistic negotiation that achieves something than a fatalistic negotiation that looks good but achieves nothing. But maybe that’s just me.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. This bill can’t and won’t fix most of these issues. But take this small W now and keep building towards the finish line.

Similarly, not doing something because you think they (ICE) won’t do it is acknowledging that they’ve already won. Yes, it is already illegal. Force elected R’s to vote against not deporting citizens. Get them on record. And then, use this recent momentum to hold them accountable.

While I agree that there is no reforming ICE, defunding or abolishing it is not a realistic expectation right now. Starting a negotiation from an unachievable position is not strength; it shows the opposition that you are unserious and that they can disregard you.

What exactly are the weak agreeable demands you speak of? If they are so agreeable, why didn’t R’s already agree to them, especially if they are so weak?
