Remember, classes are fighting styles, not character backgrounds.
You can play a noble rogue, who fights dirty. A hippy fighter who protects the forests with blade and spear or a druid who lives in the city and turns into rats.
Don't be constrained by tropes.

I'm my table's forever GM and these are the TTRPG villains I almost exclusively use:
β’ Eldritch monsters.
β’ Cults that promise to have the people's best interest in mind (they don't).
β’ Villains that take positions of authority through "legal" means.
Most of the music at our wedding was piano covers of Legend of Zelda music.
The sad part is, even though it's severely overpriced at $50, there are still idiots out there that will buy this. And it's the same ones that keep ignoring or making excuses for his stupidity.
Explain your lore but poorly:
A madness monster is making the pirates go crazy.
Kids really will humble you
I like a mixture of warrior & rogue bandits. Maybe 1 or 2 spellcaster bandits with minor spells to round it out βοΈ
I'm currently running a pirate campaign, so I'll check it out βοΈ
This advice is very helpful for running Dungeon of the Mad Mage. It's a very large module and a lot of the rooms are just empty. So cutting those (or filling them with fun stuff) can keep the players from getting bored easily.
DMTip from an 8 year old: You have a right to the comfy chair.
The Dungeon Master should be able to sit wherever they want.

Enemies can have magic items too!
As simple as healing potions or scrolls that the enemies can use in battle, or even powerful relics!
Not every magic item the party comes across has to be usable by the party, maybe it's an item they can use to bargain with later!

Absolutely beautiful βοΈ
#DnD advice: Some props will liven up your game - my players REALLY started paying attention when I started swinging a sharp axe around.
RPG tip from the archive: Use handouts to organize and focus your game for your players and for you.

Tuesday Tabletop Tips:
Use random encounters to make travel interesting. Not every encounter on the road needs to result in combat.
See that band of goblins over there? They're just a peaceful group of travelling pilgrims, but they do have a quest for the heroes!

RPG tip from the archive: "Pause for a minute" to make sure the players are all good with the characters finishing off a villain.

RPG tip from the archive: Give legendary monsters a physical in-world representation of their legendary resistances such as tattoos that wink out, floating ioun stones that explode, or gemstone teeth that crack. Thanks Level-up A5E!

!WARNING!
Despite our best efforts, history keeps happening.
I'm going to write some excerpts from ancient lore tomes for the ancient library my players are exploring βοΈ
RPG tip: Keep a good list of random names on hand. Write them down when you tie them to an NPC. This is one of the simplest examples of βpreparing to improviseβ.

A Shadowheart sketch
RPG tip from the archive: Remember that players are grasping about half of what you're describing.

People want stories.
We are drawn to the story in art. We pause and spend time with a painting until we find the joy in each brushstroke. In that moment we see the artist and storyteller like a wizard behind the curtain. That is absent in gen ai.
Go be that storyteller.
Go be human and create.
