If youβre wondering how things are going I did a 10 minute kickboxing workout video on Monday and today can barely walk down the stairs.
(And I got less than 4 hours of sleep last night).
Today is going to be fun.

Every year I tell myself Iβll put studded tires on my bike. And then every year winter comes and I havenβt saved up and I put it off until the next year. I really should just bite the bullet but afraid Iβll pay for the tires and then be too nervous to bike in the snow/iceβ¦
Photo taken by a rider on a bike. You can see the handlebars and basket of the bike, the road in front with snow and trees on either side and a big sky.
Forecast overview for the next 7 days. Forecast shows not insignificant amounts of rain and snow every day with temps varying from -8 to +7.
Fake Spring and being on my bike have been so good for my mental health.
Anywhoooo I looked at the forecast and the next seven days are going to be a sloggggg.
Walking route from Starbucks to Winners. Show the walk is 6 mins and 450 m. (Not shown that there isnβt a sidewalk on one side of the road and the crosswalk is down the street in the wrong direction and not well-marked).
14yo wants to hang out with a friend tonight = spend some time at Starbucks and then shop at winners (450m away).
Plan was to drop them off and pick up when done but friendβs parents donβt want her walking across the busy street due to traffic.
Unsafe streets force car dependency.
You know, since the first modern oil crisis in the 70s it feels like we shouldn't have quadrupled down on oil dependency and car required living
I found a sleep podcast that I like but the episodes are pretty short (~15 min) and at the beginning of every episode there are ads.
The current ad that I get is a very boisterous car salesman from a local dealership, defeating the sleep part of the podcast.
Another reason to hate cars.
I am going to email my city council and ask them to consider installing secure bike parking near our transit express stops.
When I do this, should I also suggest types of bike racks?
Iβm worried theyβll install (maybe not even bolt down) a wheel-bender without knowing betterβ¦
Photo taken from the perspective of a cyclist on an ebike. You can see the handlebars of the bike, a basket in front with a cloth bag and tulips in the basket. There is a boy on a scooter a few feet ahead of the bike.
13Β° calls for bike rides and tulip splurges.

10/10 take. no notes
This yearβs going to be awfully crappy in Miramichi but I just remembered that the multiplex is supposed to open this fall which means Iβll have a swimming pool within easy biking distance from my house!
Something to look forward to!
Hot take: Daylight Savings Time is dumb. We donβt need longer nights. Us early risers would prefer 12 months of standard time.
π¨π¦ Bike infrastructure is a low cost, high impact solution for housing & health. But $500M in federal funding is now at risk.
If approvals aren't issued now, we lose the 2026 construction season.
TAKE ACTION: Email your MP by March 13!

Journey of a bike advocate. Goes on bike ride - smile emoji Experiences the danger - shocked emoji Approaches city council - straight face emoji nothing changes angry enoji person throwing a molotov cocktail Dreams of ending car culture
It all happened so fast.

Yes, the IPC decided that separately from the IOC decision.
I am trying to picture how a car could have possibly ended up like this but thatβs generally futile because drivers gonna drive.
(Also: I once had a breakfast at the Hew & Draw that was so good that I still dream about it. )
My husband and I are currently fighting because he, once again, referred to the bombing of the Iranian school as βcollateral damageβ and I refuse to accept that thatβs an acceptable term for an attack with targeted warfare.
The Usians are culpable, and must be held accountable.
I am convinced that average is no longer accurate. From what I can see, most new midsize SUVs (which are smaller than what most people drive now) would run $800-1000 per month for 6 years.
And used cars arenβt that much cheaper.
I donβt know if anyone has actually seen car prices lately but it seems that car people will pay a π© ton of money in order to drive around with air conditioning & warm butts. I donβt think gas prices will stop them.
(I am a sometimes car person but donβt see how Iβll ever afford replacing it).
The last 10 days have been chalk-full of ups and downs in my life:
-11yoβs basketball team came close but did not win their final so did not win district banner
-14yo made varsity volleyball
-11yo made jv volleyball
- Husband was surplused at work
-14yo got offered first job
My nerves are shot.
Technically they arenβt supposed to do anything during the Olympic truce period. This is why the Russians are currently banned.
Since the paralympics are ongoing, this is still the Olympic truce period.
Will the IOC ban the US from LA 2028?
Before I realized that this was a joke I thought it was a true story about the (current) Chatham library. Ha.
Fifthed? Have used it for many many years (before it was owned by WealthSimple). Very straightforward. I do taxes for both my husband and I and my parents using it and itβs a breeze.
Kids skating on the Ian Fowler skating oval in Moncton, New Brunswick.
This morning at the skating oval, there was a man who had biked to the oval, went skating, and then sat on the bench and poured himself a coffee from his thermos.
Someday I hope to live in a place that invests in public infrastructure likes this, and where I donβt need to use my car to get to it.
When discussing this, my husband was explaining to our kids that there are always unintended casualties in war.
I challenged him and told him that with the accuracy of drone warfare today, I find it very hard to believe that this was unintentional.
They knew what they were doing.
The fact that I can remember every single word of every single song of every single album of teenage Amyβs favourite band, but I canβt remember what I went into a room to get will forever perplex me.
I have two gripes with the bridge-closure routes:
1) no bike storage at express line drop off and pick-up points. I can bike to Douglastown stop in 10 min, but have no place to leave my bike. Otherwise, itβs a 35 min walk.
2) No optimization of local routes with the express line.
I guffawed at the MTA suggestion when I first read that list. Whoever wrote that is definitely a born-and-raised Frederictonian with their UNB flag hung on their office wall.
βWhy would we need MTA when we already have UNB?β
They might have the gold medal, but at least we still have democracy.
This tracks for 2026, honestly.
π― I donβt even know who is running in this election yet but given the vitriol towards our local politicians lately, Iβm fairly convinced there wonβt be anyone progressive enough that Iβll feel super good voting for them.
